Yeah, I wasn't happy with how grey mine looked also, and I wanted to get them black. The same stuff from Griot's I use for my charcoal colored plastic trim worked pretty well for it. Sometimes Just running a fingernail across it will get it black again. I'm sure bronze wool or a scuff pad would do the job.

 

Moving this rear seat around for the fiftyleventh time gave me an idea. Camper couch. Just need to clean off the red canyon dirt from that time I used it as a camp chair.


Dale is doing good, and was happy to jump in and make himself at home. His next x ray is this Wednesday. It would be great for both of us if he had four legs again, so fingers crossed.


I've been getting my ass kicked by this basket weave fencing for the last 2-3 weeks. Its going to be a killer addition to my portfolio, but as always its been way more work than anticipated.

 

Is it just me or is anyone else getting REALLY tired of new people starting threads that are barely understandable and lack any key information? I'm seeing it here, as well as in a 4Runners.com forum that I follow for the 5th Gen. I'm getting to the point where I don't even want to waste my time.

All the forums are getting this. On the smaller forums with fewer users that are more niche, they're stupidly obvious. Used to be a new account reviving an old thread and rehashing the same information that's already been stated, then monitoring the engagement. Now they're trying to pass as people asking questions. But at the same time, there's always been a small amount of people that are just idiots and asking super vague questions about vehicles that may or may not be relevant to that forum. The internet has always been a shit hole.

Anyway, if so, today, 230.0 mile trip, 18.85 mpg!

2006 DC, 4WD, 4.7 L V8.

Not towing.

So....19 mpg rounded up.

 

I already have a lean that's very visibly annoying to me.
Front: Passenger 19; Driver side 18.
rear: passenger 22; driver 21.5 with over 3/4 tank gas.


I have everything but springs, and spacer on the way. Still researching whether 2883, or 2884 for my needs.
Currently running 31.6" tires 265/65/18 and get a slight bit of rub on driver side.
1st Gen thread under suspension says for double cab 4x4, "2884 for slight rake." How many inches are we talking? Enough lift to require extended sway bar links?
I'd like it to be just a bit higher, but don't want a lift that's going to necessitate buying additional parts.

Speaking of gas mileage. I realized today that my lowered 03 goes from full to 1/4 tank in around the same mileage (260mi) as it takes my lifted 06 to go from full tank to illuminated gas light.

19 is really good. That's the best my 03 has ever gotten, like 19.8mpg, IIRC. But that was before going from the stock rear gearing, 3.91 to 4.10.
It got 17.7mpg on my way to work this evening.

My 06 is doing good to get 14mpg, but often gets closer to 12.

Thanks for the compliments. I limit myself to 55 mph on the interstate, slow starts, and easy stops. (Except when escaping an evil trailer on a narrow road!)

I've been hoping to take this truck on this very trip for about a year now. Probably the only long-distance trip she'll be on for quite a while.

I think though, on a trip with no hills, she could break 20 mpg.

Tomorrow, back to pulling the single axle as we have 6 small yards to mow.

 

Lots of factors like tires size (big factor) aerodynamics (where lift and other external features play a role), weight (like extra steel armor and tools, gear etc), driving style, gearing, and speed, all play a role in a average mpg.

When I'm driving my 06, it's usually highway driving long distances (to reach off-roading/camping destinations). Often on I-10 where the speed limit goes between 65-80mph. Plus she's got a lot of extra weight and 35's.

 

If run some injector cleaner through might get 20.
After running some through ours on a Recent trip we took got 19.75mpg with the air conditioning running, and some hard pulls with 25mph curves.

Edit: If it weren't for those hard pulls I think would have gotten over 20. I am running Michelin tires though which seems to have helped.

 

Ha. How ironic. I just got in the truck and the same three lights are on. Mine’s driving fine though. I do have a DC with the mutant master cylinders and all the wacky vsc trac stuff. I can’t tell you what is wrong, but I can tell you when I get in mud and my wheels are all spinning, the way I would describe it is “brakes shaking and locking up” just like how your daughter described it. So maybe the system is activating when it isn’t supposed to be???

Holy crap that fence looks like a nightmare. I hope you’re getting PAID for that.

And yes. Exactly. Too bad most of the cool stuff I built is in Houston. We’re rarely down there, so I can’t brag to my kids about how cool I am…

 

I should have mentioned, AC was on most of the trip. I haven't done any real testing of AC vs. no AC on fuel mileage but I saw the "Myth Busters" episode where they found continuous AC usage decreased possible range by 30 minutes.

I could have gone without AC......wife could not.

No displays, overhead or not.*

*Technically the touchscreen radio has a "display" but it's mostly static with some use as a backup camera.

I knew the stock 2004-2006 limited 4x4 tundra had the most ground clearance of first generation Tundras, but I didn’t know until researching today that the 2004-2006 limited 4x4 has the most ground clearance of all stock Tundra generations, and models to date.

Seems most second and third generations dropped to 10-10.6 clearance.
According to auto padre anyway.

Wonder why they lowered them.

That is my point. I just forgot to put 2004 to 2006 the first sentence. (Fixed it)
I did remember It later in the sentence.
Those 2 year models have the most ground clearance of all other Tundras, according to the Stats I’ve found so far.
I’ve only found up to 2023, which has the lowest clearance at 8.3-9.4”.

After some research finally found this:
