As tired of dealing with Toyota dealerships as you probably are, just take it back to them and let them deal with it.

Did your original engine pop or did they replace it preemptively?

It was replaced as part of the recall. I never had any issues with the truck before this

Not looking good at all. It’s evidence that Toyota quality control is not what it used to be.

But please, do not count this failure as part of the bearing failures that the recall was about. Those happen at much higher miles. This failure is likely due to a quality control issue not related to the recall!

It is likely an install error, not an engine failure.

The few times vehicles I have owned that have had major surgery at a dealership have mostly not been the been the same or with the future problems. The difference between factory assembled and dealership's giving it a go is real.

    Without fully derailing this thread...

Full story is here; shorter version, after the tech mis-timed the cams on reassembly (8/1), and then had to pull the valve cover off to retime them, it developed an oil leak where oil was steadily dripping out of the engine (as per the service manager the tech "forgot to put sealant in 2 of the 4 places it's supposed to be added"). They attempted to hand it back to me (8/6) like that along with body damage (both front door handles were heavily damaged/paint missing), scuffs and scratches on both bumpers and the hood, hood misaligned, stains on the rear seats and rear door cards from storing parts inside, greasy palm prints all over the truck, etc... On 8/12 it was "ready" but still had scuffs on both bumpers and the scratches on the hood, so they said they'd have it fixed again; 8/13 the scuffs on the front bumper remain but the dealer said "that's all we're willing to do", so I took the truck in the afternoon. Morning of 8/14 I had a "low engine oil warning" and no oil on the dipstick, added 0.4qt that I had and took it up to the dealer and was told that it's almost full and that the dipsticks are just hard to read and the warning must have been a delayed one from before, everything's fine. Afternoon of 8/14 noticed a puddle of oil under it and it actively dripping oil (looked at my cameras and saw it left a puddle in the driveway overnight as well), so I took it back to the dealer and I'm now in a different loaner.

I'm 10 days into the "up to 60 day processing time" of the lemon request.

I am sorry on behalf of this dealership. They sound terrible. I am sorry this has happened

Any update on this particular recall motor??

Sure, my point is that your failure is a different issue compared to the recall, which usually affects main bearings and happens at much higher miles.

Your failure sounds like a blunt f-up during manufacturing.
