Yep, a Tundra on the tundra. Well, not really. I live in Anchorage, Alaska. The tundra starts a few miles into the interior of Alaska, Anchorage is coastal.

Lot's of Tundras here, all 4X4. You cannot buy a 4X2 here unless you special order it, which will produce some strange looks from the folks at the dealership.

Anyway, I have a 2012 Toyota Tundra Double Cab 4X4 5.7L V8 with a Transfer Flow 46-gallon replacement fuel tank, a SnugTop XV (Xtra Vision) color matched truck cap (shell), block heater, Husky Liner floor liners, Power Stop Z36 front brake, and I keep a set of Kool Vue towing mirrors on hand for when I have to tow something. It currently has Bridgestone Revo II Dueler A/T tires but I hate them and want to go back to Falken Wildpeaks, which I had once before.

So far this is the best vehicle I have ever owned. It has made a dozen trips between California and Alaska as I go back and forth between these two locations. I have driven it in every imaginable condition, sometimes while towing. I have only had to perform routine maintenance and replacement of consumables. It has never actually had to have anything repaired on it, although after a dozen trips on the Alcan, it's due for a windshield.

Here's a shot of it from one of my northward trips on an early morning last spring as I entered the Yukon from British Columbia.

    Cheers!

Welcome! I'll be headed to Anchorage next week. Possibly towing a trailer up there.. Kind of nervous about the Alcan this time of year.

I towed a 17-foor Bigfoot travel trailer back and forth for a few years, including several trips in the dead of winter. The road can actually be smoother in the winter as the ice fills in a lot of the potholes. But it can also get a bit slippery. Make sure you have chains for the truck and trailer. You may not need them but if you do, you'd better have them with you. Buy gas often and bring extra gas. You won't have much range while towing and gas stops in the off-season, especially farther north, are few and far between. That is how I ended up with the Transfer Flow 46 gallon tank. If you think putting gas into the tank from a 5-gallon plastic gas can is a PITA, try doing it when it's 20°F below zero. Best to avoid needing the gas cans, but bring them anyway. Feel free to ask any other questions about the trip. I may be able to help out. It's cold up there right now but it hasn't snowed a lot yet. Should be a nice drive. I'm in Southern California right now...too hot for me.

I have read the kids story of "Balto" many of times. First thing I think about anymore when Alaska comes up, haha.

Welcome from CO. I recognize that sign. Was in Anchorage from Nov/2011 to August/2012. Got to go up to Kuparik/Milne Point. Very interesting landing at Kuparik. Jet had very good brakes. Just sayin...You probably remember winter of 2012 was fairly brutal for Anchorage climes. Made numerous trips to my friends lodge between Ninilchik and Anchor Point. Rosco's Pizza in Ninilchik is to die for. I plan on heading up next summer for a couple of weeks.
