It was probably around 9/10 years ago I made my first trek down to NOLA for Jazz fest. Since I was a virgin to the area my friends I flew in with, took me to a drive through daiquiri place. They must not have been taping any holes shut yet, but they didn't give us any straws with our daiquiri's. So I leaned out the window to ask for some straws. The lady told me the state had stopped allowing them to serve straws if you were in the drive through. So I took my lid off and gave it back to her as I told her, well I won't be needing this then.

The state run stores seem to be the best way to buy a lot of what you outlined above. The market has been in high demand so prices are well above what they were even a few years ago. But what good isn't inflated these days right.

Getting back on topic, try the 12 yr first which is a ten times better pour than Blantons will ever be at that price. Then you can consider if you want to spring for the cigar malt at double the cost after that. $400 is a bit steep even though the 18yr drinks like a honey pot...

In response to your other post I will also say it is sad to see a state with such a rich wine history try and promote the devils lettuce at a harm to those farmers.

yea, it's something along the lines of once the package is "opened" by either piercing the straw through, its now an open container. We always Some people just poke it as soon as they drive off.

Alcohol is lame. I stick to huffing Freon. Maybe some nice malt Scotch Guard on occasion.

I would need at least (3) OG Brown Squatches on the table to even consider that...

I've been here 6 years now, and I haven't 'won' a single lottery item

The wife's parents won (2) lottery offerings, and they've been here half the time...

Although, I've got a lazy eye out for a bottle Eagle Rare 12 that I hear through the grapevine you've been looking for as well :spy:

    Ok, found my 21-year Scotch...

So, it's a Highland. It's super smooth, but I have to say the Chivas 18 is better; far more depth of flavor. Like I said before, I'm not a huge, heavy, feels like you're drinking out of an ashtray level of peat kinda guy, but this 21 is certainly lacking any decent level of char, oak or smokiness :(

I even tried opening it up just a bit w/a couple drops of water and still nothing...

    Glad I didn't pay $400 for this one :D

I'm going to try putting this one in the decanter for a while and see if it loosens up a bit :stirthepot:

Who's the producer? That's a bit disappointing seeing how a master distiller likely thought after 21 years it was GTG.

Do I need the decoder ring to post in the super secret society thread?
Am I allowed? Is there a password? ;)

I just want to say that some guys in here have a liquor budget that exceeds some 3rd world's GDP's. (Not a dig, I'm jealous.)
    Here's how much I drink:
I'm still enjoying the one and only bottle of single malt I bought for my daughter's wedding 3 years ago. (Macallen 18)
I'm getting the same way with cigars. Fewer and fewer, but still enjoy them.

Market price is simply based on what folks are willing to pay for something they want and the impact it has on their budget...

Take the Tundra for example... FGT, 2nd Gen and 2.5 Gens are currently 'over priced', but those in the market for a reliable truck before they can no longer be had are paying more than original MSRP for anything under 100k it seems...

Birthday Bourbon was what $65 back then MSRP (retail) now it's 20x that... :notsure:

847 mile Buick GNX is sitting on BaT right now w/a day left at $200k for a vehicle that MSRP'd for $29k (most went w/an additional 10k dealer mark up at the time)... it'll hit 1/4 million by close of auction tomorrow!!!

OG Brown Squatch was probably $10/ea at initial release... now sitting at $500 ($350 w/sale) or 35x original sale price...

Spirits Direct... Which, as I understood it, was a Total Wine and other mass retailer venture, where they purchased directly from one of the big distiilers (they don't disclose who); labeled it themselves; and sold for prices less than the big labels. I believe I paid $80-90 for this years ago....

Either way, I give this one a solid, "you get what you pay for"

Like I said, it drinks nice, but I would've expected a LOT more depth out of a 21 year...

I may find myself needing to track down one of those cigar malts for SnG :D

Yeah I totally get how market pricing works when the demand is low. BTAC is the prime example in the corn liqour market. And as you dully noted, earlier gen tundra's are fetching way more than they should these days.

I just thought the Jeopardy reference would get a few giggles.
