Tranny oil cooler completed

As the title says I just finished up my install on my truck. Was going to buy the kit from Genuine Cooling Systems but it continues to be sold out. Along with that, I sourced all the hoses, clamps, hardline and everything from my local Toyota rep for about 1/3rd the cost from Genuine Cooling Systems. Bought the same Setrab 15-Row Series 9 Oil Cooler and it looks great. Just wanted to share with you all.

I don't mind helping fellow Tundra owners out at all. Below is the list of what I used, it includes all the Toyota part numbers and quantity of each part on the left. The OEM oil cooler itself I bought from eBay. I bought the hardline, the 2 inlet/outlet hoses, basically the exact parts for pre 2019-2021 model years that came with a factory cooler installed so mine looks 99% factory all the way through. My oil cooler is the exact same one that Genuine Cooling Systems uses. This route cost me about $450 total.

If you really want to go with the cheapest option, you can just buy the OEM Toyota cooler assembly (32970-34030), about 12-15 feet of 3/8 heavy duty oil line, some spring clamps, and the oil cooler of your choice with barbs or AN fittings to mount by the radiator. This option excludes the Toyota OEM hardline, OEM 2 inlet/outlet hoses and you would essentially run the lines all the way up. You can then zip tie the lines underneath all the way or secure them however you want. That option would be under $350 easy.

I just installed mine a couple weeks ago too. Used @Jmunk ’s bracket. My temperatures used to get up to 225 on my scangauge just on my commute to work. Hasn’t gone over 188 since I installed the cooler. I am anxious to get back up to the lake - we are going in a few weeks. Last time we went my temps were 240+ going through the mountains

 

Haven't heard about that bracket you speak of. I am going on my archery hunt this weekend so I am also doing the transmission drain/refill. Peace of mind knowing the temperatures won't get up there now.

 

he is a member on here who cut and powder coated some really nice brackets for the Hayden style coolers. Really secures the cooler and gives it a permanent solution to mounting

I had a little different scenario; the Hayden cooler is larger and I have a sensor relocation bracket that was getting in the way. So I had to extend the mounting points with a mending plate to clear the sensor. Works great

 

How is the cooler attached to the truck? Did you make a bracket for it?

 

Yes I bought 2 brackets that bolt directly to the oil cooler I bought and they have bolt holes. One mounting point is where the passenger horn was, I just pivoted my horn downwards and used the same bolt. Then I have 2 mounting points on the bottom bracket/oil cooler. The bottom has a mounting point on the radiator support and then I mounted a little bracket from the center of the radiator support arm. It's solid.

 

Clean install. What did you do for the install brackets, any detailed pics on that please?

 

I didn't take any pics of the bottom bracket and how I mounted it up but I just used the bottom and center radiator support. The bottom radiator support has a threaded hole and I think it was an m8 1.25 bolt that I put on there to hold the bottom bracket. Then the center radiator support also has open bolt holes, I used a 1 inch 10mm bolt with a washer and nut to mount the bracket on that side. I would take pictures but I'd have to take the grill off and I'm lazy lol.

 

Im glad to hear that your temps are much better, hopefully it extends the life of the transmission.
