I’m rethinking my plan to buy new in a couple of years. I’ll likely do another used.

For the Tundra they come with enough discounts and APRs that is advantagous to buy new. Not sure about LEXUS though

GX550 is a new model so there are no deals to be had. I had to go to dealer out of my area just to get it at MSRP and it's a 2-4 month wait for an allocation everywhere I checked.

The GX550 is a nice rig, 3rd row Land Cruiser with a lot more bells and whistles. I have always thought of the Tundra more like a Lexus vehicle it definitely has a lot more features than the average Toyota.

I love that they are doing captains chairs in the second row. Wish our 570 had that option to be honest (it's an 8-seater). But the 550 then only gets 6 seats since there are only two seat belts in the third row.

Looks like the only way to get a BOF 7-seater with captains chairs in the second row is to go Sequoia. The 4Runner, GX, LX600, and LX700 all have two-seat third rows.

In related news, we just hit 203k on our 570. Stupid thing will absolutely not give us a reason to buy something new out of necessity. So we wait...

If it were solely up to me, we would probably replace the 570 with a low-mileage '20-'22 Sequoia. But my wife is absolutely in love with the new GX, so we'll see.

Yeah, to be clear, the GX is actually very much the wrong vehicle for us. We will need to fit two car seats plus a booster in there for the foreseeable future. She should be in a minivan, a TX, or a Yukon. But she parks uptown in a parking garage 2 to 3 days a week so she wants to be smaller. Plus the two youngest kids don’t leave house during the week, so she’ll really just be taking my son to school in the morning.

I've been watching. There really aren't many with less than 60k miles. People pile the miles on Sequoias. There's a '21 Nightshade 4wd with captains chairs and leather. 63k miles on the clock for $50k. I kinda prefer that to a new one. The old one has a really great transfer case with a center diff like a Land Cruiser but can run rwd, too. It also has far more room inside and the classic roll-down rear window (which I always found very useful).

The third gens look great, and an SR5 can tow over 9k lb. But they're $20k more and still oddly somewhat of an unknown quantity at this point.

Yeah the base models can definitely be had a little cheaper. Are you happy with the GX?

Couldn’t sell her on the minivan. Even told her the Sienna was AWD and I’d throw some all terrains on but no dice. I’ll probably end up buying a used Sienna or Odyssey for the nanny to use though.

My wife loves ours , we scored one of the 25th anniversary ones they only made 2525 of them, it’s pretty nice , built on the sport so it’s very drivable AWD, 35 mpg ,

It’s the wife’s, she loves it. We have 3 under 3, they haven’t in been in it haha.
We bought a dedicated oddesey for a family vehicle. Just made wayyy more sense.

I haven’t even had a car seat in the tundra yet, prolly won’t till deer season when the oldest goes with me. Kids are sooo hard on vehicles at that age, they can destroy the van over the gx or tundra.

Definitely great idea to get a used Sienna as a nanny/family vehicle. My plan is to keep ours until the wheels fall off and just get wife something else in a few years.
Honestly I am leaning towards a Nissan Armada or Infiniti. Have you seen those new Armada Pro 4x. Saw one in the neighborhood the other day then did some research. What a vehicle, still made in Japan too. And as much as I love the Toyota products including the GX and Sequioa, from the practical standpoint it doesn’t make sense not to get the Armada.

We ended up custom ordering a 2025 F150 Lariat SuperCrew with the 5.0, 6.5 ft. bed, and Max Tow axle package as well as a 2026 X5 xDrive40i. Both arrived within a month of each other.

BMW's military incentives are really hard to beat. $76k MSRP vehicle with an OTD price (including TTL) of $68k.

We were considering the GX550 as an SUV replacement but there are some significant drawbacks to it and the pricing/availability was not appealing. The GX550 has horrible range. The F150 can get between 650-700 miles of range unloaded and the X5 gets between 550-600 miles of range.

We'll probably end up replacing our 2016 X3 with a 2026+ Suburban a few years from now.

I will not pay over $50k for a vehicle that I cannot custom order exactly how I want, but I'll consider Toyota/Lexus products when they make that change.

No kidding. Vehicle fuel range is not my first concern when on a road trip.

Do you want to have to refuel when you stop for a restroom break?

I'd rather have the option to not need to refuel when I'm stopping for a break. I like being able to not have to fuel in the middle of the day of a road trip since you're it's not recommended to leave a vehicle unattended when refueling.

Look at this guy complaining about having to refuel every 100-125 miles when towing with his GX550: https://www.lexusgxforum.com/threads/dismal-mpg.2211/

Also, depending on where you are towing, it can be inconvenient to have to pull a trailer through the fuel pumps of a small gas station off the interstates.

I did it, Denver to Omaha in my Silverado 2500 6.6L Duramax, to pick up a KTM motorcycle not available in my state. I wanted to see if I could, non-stop 544 miles. I did it one other time in that same truck, racing my sister who was speeding 90+ mph. I averaged only 75 mph but not stopping, for anything; Dallas to Denver 800 miles, just one stop to refuel. My brother was riding with her. He told me she was desperately trying to beat me, but I won. Tortoise versus hare. Unthinkable for me today. On the interstate in the desert of Utah, 100+ miles between refueling stations. Long range matters. It's cool and it saves time, really important if towing.

On our recent road trip pulling a camper from WI to CO and back, it was almost a game to see what gave first. Needing fuel, having to pee, or someone needing food/snacks. And stretching the legs was appreciated. 14 hour trip per Google maps ended up being 16 total hours. Just part of traveling…

Coffee in the morning is good. Life is good. The time we travelled through Montana and Yellowstone in a class C motorhome, my wife baked a turkey in the oven while we went down the road. (Not advised.) Somewhere south of Cody Wyoming she said, "It's ready." I pulled off to the shoulder just then and we ate turkey dinner. We were so tired and full we spent the night on the spot. Woke up the next morning, not remembering if a single car had passed by. We were only feet from a sign that said, "Oregon Trail." Had no idea of its meaning at the time. If you do this kind of thing, you may change up the formula, travel trailer, motorhome, fifth wheel, tent camping or whatever, there's as many ways as there are people and no way is wrong as long as you make it work for you. Everyone is experimenting over a lifetime, which truck, which trailer, balancing the needs of everyday usage against the needs of open road travel. We end up with trucks, minivans, motorhomes to walkers, bicycles to boats, it's a blessing life in the USA.

My powerboost can do about 650 miles on a 30 gallon tank on a
Trip. Was closer to 700 on long tips if I was gentle before I put on aggressive all terrains. 09 Tundra used to be 300 on a good day.

still limited by pee breaks but if everybody's sleeping or Good to go it's Nice to skip a couple stops and get to vacation faster if we want to hit the ground running and get a little fun or get a good dinner in soon as we unpack. Even if we stop to pee not needing gas cuts the stop in half.

We just took a 4 hour road trip, then I drove everywhere all Week before driving home. The Tundra would have needed a fill up before, one In the middle of the week, maybe if we drove a lot one more at the end of the week and probably one more close to home or right after we got home. The Ford needed one just prior to hitting the road and another close to home. If I wanted to I could have gotten home and waited a day or two.

During normal driving She's been known not to see a gas station for 3-4 weeks at a time. You feel like it's so much more tolerable when you only need at most one tank of gas per paycheck.

Toyota really should have kept the 38 gallon capacity of the gas tank from the 2nd Gen in the 3rd Gen.

On longer constant speed highway drives, the non-Powerboost versions of the F150s should get more range than the PowerBoost F150s due the 36 gallon vs 30 gallon gas tanks.

I gets better mpg so its a wash, I get 22+ on the highway in my 23, I got 15-16 in my 2016 5.7.

with a 32 and that MPG, you really don't need more range, at least at my age, I can't hold my piss for 15 hours, lol.
