Just started checking out this thread and was getting hungry and excited about all the burgers talk and was going to mention the peanut butter bacon cheese burger I tried that ended up being pretty darn good and that my preference is cheep yellow cheese melted to the max with a fried skirt around the burger with bacon, mayo and a fresh slice of toe mater....... but I guess I'm too late for that conversation :notsure:, story of my life! But one of my top restaurant burgers in my tour of burger world has to be the carnivorgasm burger that the Vortex in Atlanta use to serve!

Good to know, I have the joys of working swing shift (no I'm not a swinger:spy:) and sometimes it can get slow on nights. So looking for some good cleanish humor to pass the time. Also newish to the forum and starting to dig into the threads. And yes kids growing up on CCC can ruin their perspective on 3 year aged cheddar and fine fresh smoked cheese among other great examples out there!

    Yall been busy

like I said earlier, its tough, these days to have real conversations without a party going ad hominem

early on in my time here, a couple of yall guided me in the right path. As I was stating heavy stuff and touching 3rd rails. The UAW thread was a true test for me.

    oh well.

I would certainly be banned if I posted all the shit I delete after a re-read.

    And

I learned you have to have a certain mounting plate for the CZ to mount an optic on an optic ready pistol!!!

so, next Friday for the RMR

But I did go to the range, because I needed the practice

    It was Africa hot.

But I did good. Once I quickly hit all 6 steel targets in a row. I moved to the next gun

    then left

Ftr. The CZ shoots a smidge more comfortable than both staccatos

but nothing shoots better than a sig p210

A true luxury is being able to sit in my office with this site on one monitor and watch shit happen. Then as others log on, the conversation blossoms in ways that are simply hilarious

without ever having to get lathered up

    generally good conversation

I would say “thank you” to all of you for putting up with me

    but

I put up with yall, as well

USPS is going to raise rates in Oct

    FOR WHAT?

    Because nobody mails shit anymore

    and

they have mondo fixed costs to cover.

I say fix the stamp cost at $.50 and let the USPS fend for profits like the rest of us do

You do kidna have that here. You can use PMs to a trusted member (giggity) or you can even use the chat with staff section. I've asked many times if I can post things or if I'd take a hit on it. The general rule of "if you think there's a chance you'll get banned, don't post it" applies, but sometimes it's a bit of a grey area. Especially when it comes to memes. Some I've asked about I've been told would get me a ban, but @ColoradoTJ let me know he was stealing it to share with his friends.

The chat with staff section is a great way to get to know the moderators as well. Yes, you still have to be respectful, but you can have some great conversations with that group too! It's kinda like getting to hang out with all the first responders but in digital form. Don't start fires or commit crimes in front of them, but you can have a fun time.

Ah, a fellow paid forum surfer. :hattip: I am way more active on here during slow days at at work. Much easier to interact with the site on a PC than on my phone.

    This is the truth.

Vortex. I remember that place. Lived in Atlanta for 12 years.

Grew up in Oak Ridge. Dad did something there, never would tell me what it was exactly. :alien:

I’ve got a story I’ll share from living in Atlanta. I renovated some houses there. Two really old ones, and a nice ‘56 ranch house. One was in Grant Park, and the ranch was in the Clairemont Hills area near Emory University.

One of the old ones was a shotgun house in Perkerson Park. Kind of a rough area. Bought the house for 42k, built in 1912. No central heating/ac or ductwork. All the heating was from 4 fireplaces. Heart pine floors, no subfloor. Large walk-in crawl space, sitting on a cross-slope, accessed from an exterior door on the taller side of the house. Original horse hair plaster. Barely any plumbing, knob and tube wiring.

Bought the house from an elderly lady who was moving down yonder to live with family. She bought the house with her husband right after WW2.

There were several abandoned houses on the street, one was adjacent to this house. I renovated the shit out of my house. Everything. New wiring, copper. The house had no real kitchen, but a cook closet where the stove was located. You could close the door and keep the heat trapped in there. House had 11’ ceilings and huge attic. I tore out the cook closet and built a new large kitchen, fixed all of the plaster, sanded down the floors, fixed exterior… the list goes on. Made a good profit.

I had a holstered pistol with me at all times, got some paint on it. Got to know the neighborhood and many of the neighbors.

The abandoned house next door, sometimes I’d see cars pull up in the backyard. There would be a couple there in the car. One of the occupants would disappear from view suddenly. Then they would leave shortly after that. They always seemed to come back in different cars. :notsure:

All of my tools, I would keep in the walk-in basement area. I had an alarm system installed. One time, the door got smashed in and alarm went off 5 minutes after I left. The police actually suggested booby traps. The door was made out of 2x6 lumber nailed together. Almost all of my tools were carried off.

I rebuilt the door, better hinges and bolted it together. One night I was sleeping there and I hear people trying to take the door apart again with a crowbar. I turned on all of the lights and went out there, talked to a few folks that were nearby, some of them perhaps neighbors, to see if they had seen anything. The door was damaged, but survived. Someone had torn it apart enough to slip through, though, but didn’t make it out with anything.

So then I doubled down. I rebuilt the 2x6 door and went bigger with the bolts, and added two huge hinges and two huge clasps and padlocks. Then, I REPEATED THAT. The first door would set off the alarm, and then there was another matching door right behind that one, for a total of 4 padlocks. After that, I solved the problem.

I shared with the neighbors, just making friendly small talk, about my double door system. I think even the hookers were impressed.

I don't even know what the "door kick challenge" is but I am guessing it's in the same vein of stupid as the "knockout game" that went on a few years back?

    Supply and demand.

They can raise the price of a stamp to whatever the market will bear.

    It will self-correct.

Again? They just raised it to $0.78 last month. I remember when I still worked there how pissed off people got when it was raised to$0.25, but people still mailed everything back then. As far as fending for themselves, it already does, receives no tax money, just what they make from postage sales.

If they'd stop delivering junk mail ads that nobody except bird owners wants, they could drop delivery down to two days a week. They could rotate neighborhoods like with garbage collection so delivery would still be a full time job, but they wouldn't need half their current staff.

Solving problems one idiotic government failure at a time. See, I need to be King.

That's not entirely true. They run at a deficit and borrow. True, it's not getting tax money, but what they make form postage sales doesn't cover the cost of operations and the unfunded liabilities.

Honestly, it's one of the few things I'd be on board with taxes going toward. How to make it all work out without abuse and such is a deeper discussion that cannot be had on the forum, though.

I like and support you on this, for those willing to go that route.

That’s not part of my plan though, for multiple reasons. I don’t expect much trouble here though, for now.

Plenty of tax dollars go to support the postal service.
    FY2024 U.S. Postal Service Appropriations | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
Plus the PSRA in 2022 gave them $57B. They'll need a new bailout again in a couple of years, and the bullshit that is the current model will continue to be mismanaged and suck a government tit. If it were fully public, Congress would find a way to increase funding and move that increase to pork and abuse. Almost no customers and almost no services, public or private, need paper billing, receipts, contracts, or anything else. It's like land-line telephones - - just a holdover from a bygone era. Kill it.

It seems like the postal service will just go away. Most institutions will do E-docs. So I think eventually if they just go away, everyone who must do something with paper from a legal perspective will just use one of the other providers.

then we won’t get all the shit mail.

They actually make money on the bulk business mail. A lot of it is dropped by the pallet already divided per route by the mailer and just needs to be distributed in the local station to the routes by the mail handler.

I agree on cutting delivery days, it's not needed every day anymore. The closest they do now is cutting routes. When I started Tucson was growing and routes were constantly being added, that's how you went from a sub to a career employee, new routes were bid and the most senior sub would be promoted to career and get the last route. When I left, rather than my route going to bid, they just split it up and added the parts to other routes. I imagine it's worse now with even less mail volume.

No. I refuse to do online banking. I still write checks every month for multiple bills. Removing cash and checks from commerce is a huge part of the financial illiteracy that plagues upcoming generations. The more it moves to digital, the less "real" it feels to spend your money. It's a trap.
