Use to get a Hybrid/E-Vehicle tax credit, now it's a fee (at least in Washington State). $75 per year, on top of the numerous additional ridiculous fees. An $8 registration fee for a $4.50 registration filing fee ..... OMG....

Rant over, I feel better now.....:burp:

That seems very reasonable compared to AZ on a 2024 truck.

900 to register mine in ME in May. 1200 last year. Goes down incrementally each year until you get to a flat rate

Yeah, I guess I got it easy. I don't mind paying the Registration, it's just the little "tic-tac" fees that drives me crazy. Just give me the bottom line....

I came here to post this. RTA tax is complete bullshit. $400 for my Corolla and I'm sure almost $600 for my Tundra.

North Carolina is like $50 (some counties differ) plus a highway use tax and weight fee. Its not terrible. Some of y'all got the shit end of the stick.

    lol

    2014 4Runner
    $104 = $79 for tags + $25 for special plate

    2023 Tundra Platinum non HV
    $167 = $142 for tags + $25 for special plate

    total = $271 per year for 2 vehicles :)

and it goes down each year due to depreciation of said vehicles.

    4runner was $120 back in 2021 = $95 for tags + $25 for special plate

The fuel tax is for road work. They are trying to makeup the shortfall in tax revenue to repair the roads. They didn’t plan well on the whole “let’s not charge electric vehicles” to use the roads thing. Their solution was to add a tax to cover the difference. Other solutions include a usage tax that taxes by the miles you drive and thus the amount you actually use the road.

In Hawaii they tax by weight using the logic that heavier vehicles do more damage to the roads. The registration never goes down, in fact it generally goes up over time due to inflation and other factors. You could pay 900 bucks to register your heavy 25 year old truck that’s essentially worthless. This is not an ideal system either.

$570ish for a '23 here in Colorado. "fees" make up as much as the ownership tax. Roads are shit and drivers drive like idiots. Sucks being a true native to this State. Should have closed the gates 20 years ago. Property tax is just as bad. I'm staying because it is home. Just suck it up and move along.

I used to hate the annual ad valorem taxes at your birthday in GA.

The TAFT is great. Remove previous sales tax of 7% or 8% and pay a one-time tax at time of purchase that is less then sales tax. Then $20 a year for the tag. If you buy and hold a vehicle bought from a dealer for a decent period it's better.

Personal sales are now taxable which is fairer since the road does not care how you bought the car. and if you are a car speed dater you hate it.

I pay $151 per vehicle here in Illinois including the tundra, I’m curious why you’re paying more, I know that if you get past due over 30 days, they tack on another 20 bucks

I just paid $812 for registration in CA. Hurt real bad. My 2013 Tacoma was $270ish last year before I sold it. The weight fee and commercial vehicle fee that all pickups have to pay in CA hurts.

Yep thanks Gavin! That and our gas prices (especially here in the SF Bay Area) are among the highest in the nation. All pick-ups in California are registered as Commercia Vehicles. :frusty:

I've been able to keep the gas prices under $4.00 a gallon for the most part (Sacramento area but I travel all over norcal regularly) . It just requires a little more advance planning and using apps that each brand has that takes off anywhere from 10 to 25 cents a gallon.

$780.00 just to register in SF Bay Area for me. 2012 Tacoma 4 cylinder regular cab was $400.00. Gas is at $4.89 a gallon. Count your blessings.
