Those pics aren't showing for me. *** Nevermind, now they are.

Those don't look bad to me at all. I see a little corrosion on the radiator hose clips and the heater switch but nothing I would expect from a NE truck.
All this to say that it could be worth going to see it in person. But I would be VERY weary of buying a 20 year truck unseen and relying only on pictures.

When I got my current truck I relied on pictures and carfax but still flew out to see it in person and have it inspected while I was there. It would have sucked but I was fully prepared to walk away and buy a return plane ticket that day or the next.

You're right, that's exactly what I need to be prepared to do. The part of me who loves a good deal is currently at war with the part of me that knows I'm not a mechanic and should probably just be willing to pay more for a vehicle that has fewer variables of potential concern.

Pretty common to take a pressure washer to the engine bay, and they definitely used some type of spray polish on all the black plastic parts in that engine bay. Portland is way too dusty for any engine bay to normally look that clean. My biggest concerns are other dealerships as asking $20K+ for trucks with questionable lift kits and aftermarket wheels around here, why is this dealership only asking $10K? Also it's missing a heater knob, I paid $16 for a set of aftermarket knobs off Amazon, why hasn't this dealership bothered to replace it? The mileage is pretty average for around here, maybe the paint is completely trashed beneath the camo wrap? Check it out, but definitely be thorough when looking at it, something about it just feels off to me.

Depends on how ya plan to use the truck. For a guy like me not depending on the truck for my livelihood nor long trips or with family/children, and have other vehicles to use.... a breakdown or otherwise downtime for repairs is no big deal. On the other hand, if you use the truck for work or it's your only vehicle a guy can't afford to be constantly dicking with the myriad of things an old vehicle can suffer, as evidenced on this forum. If ya just want a project truck... cool.

Absence of ABS is nice. Absence of center A/C control knob is not, likewise the missing half of the front driver fender flare.

Presence of brake controller below the ignition is potentially concerning, especially with the miles, especially knowing the issues the 2000-2002 trucks had with planetary gear grenading ... which could be why these guys got the truck cheap enough to wrap, lipstick it up, and flip it at this price.

That said, it's not a horrible price if it's sound, free of codes, and has had proper maintenance. I have my suspicions that wrap may be hiding something, like different colored panels.

It won't be my only vehicle but I wlll be depending on it to not inconvenience me with regular breakdowns. It's going to be a 'work truck'. Work for me largely consists of going to the office, performing property inspections, meeting with property owners and sub-contractors, and crafting proposals.

Are there regular issues with ABS? I missed this. Have been avoiding the vehicle stability control all together though, sounds like a nightmare.

That camo one is listed as green/gray in the color description. I can’t quite tell from the photos but it almost looks like the door jambs are a different color from the inside body. Might say “clean title” because an accident was never reported.
Could have slid on ice or been in an accident without another vehicle being involved.

I wouldn't say there are issues with ABS per se, but I also know several people on here with earlier year trucks who've pulled their ABS fuse(s)/relay(s) due to issues with it kicking in during inopportune times, or because there's an issue with it they can't fix.

I personally like having ABS, myself. But to speak to the positives of not having it:
    • Less electronics at all four corners, less wiring to them
    • More room in the engine bay for other stuff - extra battery, air compressor, or any other number of cool add-ons
    • Less brake lines to fail
    • One less ECU (the ABS ECU) in the truck to deal with
    • One less stop in the brake system for air to get trapped
I'm sure there's more positives than that, but if you were to buy a truck w/o ABS, just know, some of your parts may be different because they won't have the hole bored out for the sensors to sit inside.

So the later trucks, 05 and 06, don't have the same ABS problems typically? Barring they're not rusted out.

Not saying that, just saying, in the earlier years, you can pull the ABS fuse(s)/relay(s), which isn't something you can do in the later years IIRC (you might want to verify that, my memory isn't always perfect).

Most of the ABS activation issues I've seen were due to mis-alignment of the sensor, mis-alignment of the tone ring, shit built up on the sensor, or a failed O-ring on the sensor.

hard to tell with the lighting - Looked like the door jams are that tan/ maybe grey, and the engine bay looks like a crisp white.

So many little things don't add up on that truck. If it was closer to me I'd drive over and look at it, but I'm not driving half an hour to look at a clapped out truck that has some spit polish on it.

One of the big red flags I noticed is the rear drums have maybe a little bit more than normal amount of rust on them, but that frame looks freshly painted.
    00q0q_8xzvESrEpLG_0cU08C_1200x900_6afd7c649f0ac7fc4582685fb493bb73e429b5a0.jpg

We don't really salt the roads Oregon and rust usually isn't that big of an issue, so I checked the carfax and that truck has spent its whole life in Southern Oregon, greater Medford area, and is still registered to someone down there, but is listed for sale 5 hours away in Portland. Being from Medford does explain the camo wrap a little bit better. Maybe it's just an old tired tow rig that they freshened up to sell to some city slicker.

I talked to a guy who works there yesterday - I asked for more frame-underbody pics. I also asked about the driver side front fender flare - looked broken in half and he just said it clips on and that they were working on replacing - I agree with the drums and paint in that pic. Sometimes my drums look like that here in Wisconsin when rain and haven't driven in a day or two. Need more intel from the seller

Ya the lighting is weird. Pic #12 looks bluish on the driver front door jam. Engine bay is odd. It should be gold as well. Plus the drum and paint in the wheel wells and on the frame.
