Which Load for 35s

    I would like to hear which load rating you would recommend and why for 35s. Im on the fence and need to get these tires very soon.

    I don't tow and have stock bumpers and no camper shell.

    What are your thoughts on the following:

    315/70R17 Toyo AT III D

    35x12.5R17 AT III C

    35x12.5R17 Toyo AT III E

    :popcorn: I still think that C is plenty for these trucks if you can find it in your desired size, but I'm curious to hear what others have to say based on their experience!

    Thanks. I respect your opinion. I have heard that to some C feels squishy with weight of our Tundras. I hope C is good - Found 35x12.5R17 and just need to tell shop that the they are the ones vs E.

    I am getting new tires soon and have been thinking of getting C load tires. I tow a boat that weighs about 5900lbs with 350lb tongue weight so I'm interested to hear opinions as well.

    Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension, HD RAS, 285/75-18 Nokian Outpost AT, LoPro bed cover, TRD rear sway bar, DD 10 inch exhaust, and various other goodies
    C load is plenty. Not really a fan of D load, odd load rating that does not really work well half ton or HD trucks- stuck in the middle....not sure what vehicles actually use D load.

    E load works, is what I run due to that is what was available in the size I wanted....but E load is overkill for half ton trucks and they do make the ride significantly firmer. And they are HEAVY so impact performance and MPG more.

    C load is perfect for half tons, jeeps, SUVs, tuff enough to stand up to off road, towing, but much more compliant that the others and certainly easier to live with. Less of a hit on performance and MPG.

    At least you are not looking at F load! Ive seen a bunch of F load ratings on some newer 35s.....would ride like a wagon wheel on a half ton truck.

    3/1 Lift, 35s, Front Bumper, etc etc
    I’ve had both E and D 35s, first set was Mickey Thompson mud tires in 35x12.5r18, load range D; that with Bilstein 6112s and fox 2.5s made the truck ride like a dream, and they aired down very nicely

    now I have Mastercraft Courser MXT’s (also mud tires) in 305/75r18 (they run 35x12.5) but I didn’t pay attention to the load rating and they are E; they’re nice tires and have good grip but dang the difference in ride quality is night and day; bumps are way more noticeable. With the RTT and bedrack on the bed it’s not as bad.

    TLDR would strongly suggest D; definitely not E

    Thanks fellas. The 315/70/17 Toys I was looking at are not immediately available at my go to shop for the Tundra. The C & E Toyos 35s are. Gonna just go with C and give it a try. I need TPMS sensors- any info on that? OEM or aftermarket or none (like currently).

    Ive had good luck with whatever discount tire uses...Just did new ones for the wheels I just installed last 2 weeks. They were like 60 bucks each I think. Ive used their sensors a few times in Toyotas and never had any issues with sync, longevity or performance.

    Factory sensors are excellent, cost a bit more I think.

    I had e rated tires on a 03 Durango (work vehicle), they bought the tires in bulk. They were 8 or 10 ply. I could air them down to 10psi and they still looked fully inflated.

    I was debating between the C and E rated open country at3’s in 35’s, and ended up going with the E’s. If you look at Toyo’s chart, as far as 35x12.5x17’s go, the E rated are only 6 pounds heavier per tire which isn’t that much at all. E’s ultimately offer more protection and are stronger too.

    C all the way. I have 35 Falkens in C and they still ride as rough as my E Toyos did. I would definitely get the C Toyos as I think they will ride better than my Falkens.

    Thanks. Im goin C. Figure this will be a “test”. Ive been deep diving about load ratings, load index’s, and speed ratings. From what I can tell C are good to go in terms of GVWR for my truck (7200lbs) and dont plan on going greater than 90mph. The compromise will be strength of sidewall while off-roading and towing capacity. I dont tow as of yet and I be mindful offroading.
    I will update on wear and ride once I get them and put some miles on them.

    Ill use the savings from not going E to get that 5th C tire- at least i will rationalize that. Haha. Still on the fence about swapping wheels from method 701s flat black to Method 315s machined. Tired of my black wheels.

    I'm on 35x12.50r17 Toyo OC AT3's in C load and my truck rides like a dream down. I'm running about 33 PSI in them, on Bilstein 6112/5160's. I think you made the right choice there going with C's

    I was wanting C also. But the Falken AT4W size I was looking for, the C load cost more than the E. And tire weight is the same also between C and E. So I may just end up with the E.

    E. im an overkill fan and they are tough. I offroad with them and use on crap California roads and I never even had a flat.

    At a basic level this is what I gathered:
    As far as sidewall construction- From what I understand C are rated at 6 ply and E are rated at 10 ply. Most are 2 ply regardless of load rating (the plies may be thicker and stronger on E rated) until you get into mud terrain and rough terrain (R/T or Hybrids) which are mostly 3ply. The rubber compound also play a part in sidewall toughness. I think KO2's are 3 ply in D and E. It seems the consensus is that if you off road especially in rocky terrain E will be a better fit; same if you tow. There is a tire weight difference as well as a compromise. Im super happy with my Toyo AT3 35 x 12.5 in C but if I towed and did real off roading I would have gone E and sucked it up. Im usually on washboard dirt roads when off-road. I have been contemplating doing the Mohave Trail so we'll see.

    What other tires have you ran before the Toyo AT3 in C? How did they compare in ride quality?

    Ive had Nitto G2's (32s) and Mickey Thompson ATZ's (34s), also had MT ATZ (35s) on my 08 Tacoma.
    I am currently running Toyo ATIII's 35s C load.
    The C's are 59 lbs and the E's are 73 lbs. This is for 35x12.5x17.
    The Toyos are my favorite out of the bunch. Ride is very good with Kings and UCAs. I made the right decision zero regrets.
    The Nittos were smooth but wore quickly and not great at all on dirt. The Mickeys looked bad ass and lasted but the ride was not optimal for me.
