I can't seem to get the onboard wireless phone charger to work with my Android in my 2024 tundra. Anyone have this problem?

The wireless charger is pretty much useless in my opinion. I have a Samsung S24 Ultra and it will charge for a second then won't, veru finicky. It'll constantly do this unless it's sitting perfectly without a case. It charges super slow and barely keeps up especially if you have you hotspot on.

Yeah, it's useless. I think there was someone here who managed to swap it out with an upgraded aftermarket version but it looked like a pain. I only use it now if I absolutely have to. I just take the case off.

Sometimes I think it’s dependant on the phone. For my personal Samsung phone it never charges, but my iPhone 11 I have for work the wireless charger works pretty good

I started digging when I found the same issue with my new 2025 1794 Hybrid and my iPhone 16 Pro Max. This dual wireless charger replacement is on my list to eventually purchase/install. There is some info in another thread here and a YouTube video on the install.

I installed the NSV dual charger like listed in post above & it works great, even with my phone case. Easy install as well. 20250219_115900.jpg

Awesome! How well does it charge while using multiple apps in CarPlay (ex: Google Maps & Spotify)?

Toyota released a technical service bulletin that stated that the QI chargers are only meant for Qi certified devices and said Mag safe devices are not Qi certified. It is attached below

Thanks for posting, but I have to laugh that Toyota issued that bulletin.

The title contradicts the content. "Qi Wireless Charger - Incompatible with MagSafe Devices" is the title.
The condition states "Wireless chargers on applicable vehicles are designed to work with Qi Certified devices only. MagSafe devices, that are not Qi Certified, may not charge as expected with Qi Wireless Chargers."

Well, if you follow the rest of their guidance to lookup the iPhone certification, current iPhones (at least as far back as iPhone 11) are actually Qi certified and are listed in the Wireless Power Consortium Definitive List from that technical bulletin. Even if we remove the MagSafe cases, charging is still inadequate.

Toyota would be better saying "We're aware that customers have expressed concerns about the performance of Qi Wireless Chargers and apologize for the inconvenience" and leave it at that.

Interestingly Toyota tundra itself is not QI certified because I couldn’t find it on the database

it does make sense that the charging does not work well because both the charger and the device have to be certified to work properly. They never certified the charger so the charger could be the problem

It charges while using Waze & Amazon music, even with my Otterbox case. WAY WAY better than the factory version.

I find that wireless charging, even when it's working its best, is problematic. I use my iPhone as a Wi-Fi hotspot at home and if the phone is left on the wireless charger it will pretty quickly stop charging because it gets too hot and the power usage will exceed the charging so the battery will discharge over time. In the summer time I've even had it stop charging without the hotspot being enabled.

In a truck in the summer during the day when you're using CarPlay (both bluetooth and WiFi turned on) the same thing will happen. The phone will get too hot and stop charging.

On long trips I just plug in the phone to the USB port in the center console with a cable. Not as pretty as the wireless option but the phone does not overheat.

Maybe wireless charging vendors should start putting heatsinks and fans on those chargers!

it's so bloody slow to a point if you are streaming music from it, it barely keeps up.

I've decided to just go USB for charging, and have a cable dangle out my center console.

That's exactly what I've been doing too, and I think that will continue to be my plan until I'm able to purchase & install the NSV dual charger that @Raven67 is using.

I have a Pixel 8 Pro with a Spigen Ruggen Armor case. The wireless charger works very well for me in my 2024. It definitely disconnects at times, but I put it on the charger last night at 30%, took a road trip, and arrived nearly full after a few hours while using Android Auto, Waze, streaming music. It is finicky at times, no doubt, but totally useful. I was just thinking last night that it is a game changer for me. Very satisfied.

It's a Panasonic made part. Perhaps that's why you didn't find it. Regardless, it's a 5W POS. USELESS AF. Ripped it out and put in the eff-co 15W qi charger. Now my phone charges like it should, fast wireless.

Nice! I've not seen information on this one, the eff-co qi charger. Is this the product you're using (https://www.eef-co.com/product-page/lite-charger-v2)? I had been planning to eventually put in the NSV dual charger, but it's $250 and 10W. Comparing it to the EEF, the EEF is MUCH cheaper and more powerful. Do you happen to have any photos of your install (even if just the final state)?

I didn't take photos of the final install, because nothing changes from the exterior view. It looks exactly the same as it did before I swapped it out. It literally only took 10 minutes to install. I removed everything needed to take the OEM charger out of the car with my hands, 0 tools needed.

The only tool i needed was a phillips screwdriver to unscrew the OEM charger to remove it from the trim piece.

Watch the video for the install of the NSV dual charger and you can see how crazy easy it it to remove all the trim pieces to get at the charger.

I chose the eff charger over the NSV because for a number of personal choices.

    1) I didn't need dual chargers(nice feature but not a MUST for me)
    2) I wanted 15W not 10W
    3) The eff plugs into the existing qi wiring harness unlike the NSV dual charger where you have to run it up to the 12V socket on the dash behind your screen.
    4) I want the qi charger to just work like every other wireless charger out there. The eff you set your phone down and it starts charging... The NSV dual you have to press the button each time.

Had NSV made their dual charger dual 15W and no stupid button to hit every single time, I would have sent them $250 and used their product.

This is awesome! Last question (I think) - From what I recall, the NSV Dual Charger does not integrate with the Toyota infotainment (doesn't recognize devices connected to aftermarket Qi charger) although CarPlay does recognize it. It doesn't affect usability, but I think I recall this being a slight nuance that I didn't love. I may have gotten this wrong, I can't remember. Regardless, is the EEF charger recognized by both CarPlay & the Toyota Qi charging indicator on the screen since it plugs into the existing Qi wiring harness?

I did not check this feature out, I will do tomorrow when I go to work and report back. I will say the eff comes with a dual color LED that does indicate power (blue) and charging (red), and it utilizes the original OEM location. My guess is yes, it will show because the eff utilizes the original factory plug, the NSV disconnects it and doesn't use it at all.

I'm android, so I can check with android auto, no iphone to check carplay.

Another thing to note, the eff charger is 100% NON-DESTRUCTIVE and REVERSIBLE should you have any concerns. No cutting splicing tapping anything.

Thanks for the info! I assume under application option drop-down menu, you chose "Tundra With Factory Qi"?

That is correct. This gives you the wiring harness that plugs into the existing qi wiring harness in your truck.

The charging indicator shows up when using android auto. I am not seeing a qi indicator in the infotainment screen outside of that.

I tried using the EEF with my Pixel 9, but unfortunately, it wouldn’t charge—whether I had the case on or off. I reached out to EEF, and they were kind enough to send me a replacement. Sadly, the second unit didn’t work either.

Eventually, I decided to invest in the Dual Wireless Phone Charger for $250, and I’m glad I did! It works flawlessly—my wife can charge her Samsung, and I can charge my Pixel 9 at the same time without any issues.

If anyone’s interested, my EEF is up for sale!

That's a pixel problem, not eef. Pixel locks down fast wireless charging only to their overpriced exclusive licensed chargers. It a well-known thing.

The dual charger works with your pixel because it's only putting out 10W. Eef does 15W. If you want 15W wireless charging on a pixel, you have to buy pixels charger.
