Android Headunit

If you want to monitor your transmission temp while hauling, you will have to manually add the PID in settings. These are the variables to enter for '09+.

 

This one works well? I read on Torque Pro's app page to watch out for the cheap imported adapters.

 

I've been using a cheap one for several years now. I guess I got lucky.

That previous one only has 1 review so I would stay away from that.

I also have the more expensive Kiwi PLX but the ELM327 Mini is more discreet and has been working just as well as the Kiwi.

Some of the reviews say they didn't work with some model cars but at least we know this one works on a '17 Tundra.

 

Here is a video I made with a family memebers iPhone (I hate apple) haha. Unfortunately I packed my unit up and shipped it out this morning. They sent me the 1g ram so I jumped on the group buy and put a order in for a new one at the discounted price.
They provide the OBD2 cable, drops right down under the dash.
I didn't pursue the nav as much because I knew I was getting anthor one but I thank yo for reminding me, I will contact the guy tonight to make sure it is up to date prior or shipping.

Just got mine. Only 1 broken tab. Hope doesn't affect it too much. Already got entune radio ripped out

 

Man! They either need to work on their QA or use a different courier.

 

Does it use the factory Mic or the built in ?

 

I would use Google Maps or Waze instead of the onboard iGo navigation since Google is pretty fast to update changes to roads.

@Berdine this might help you when you get booted up. I could not get the Hvac one the screen so they sent me this info. You won't find tundra h. You will find TANTU HI.

The physical buttons are not retained?

For those asking about a subwoofer rca

 

We need a video made with step by step instructions for install. I've never installed an after market stereo before. I've always been to reluctant because I might screw something up a break something. Or maybe a guide with photos.

 

I am hoping this will plug and play with my existing non-JBL HU. I currently have an audiocontrol DSP and amps and the plug and play harness from *********. I am anticipating pulling out the stock HU and replacing with the android HU...done.

 

I agree a video would be nice, but it's been ok, the hardest part was the hazard and airbag light. Have to take the controls all apart. I didn't get any instructions either. Just this

 

Should be fine, yours was already plug and play from taco tunes.

 

Curious, how is the build quality compared to other HUs?

 

You just plug the ODB plug into the ODB port to the right of the ebrake. All the adapters they provide go to specific spots on the back of the unit. Can't put them in the wrong spot.

Yea, they disabled the discount codes. There was also another code "COMEBACK5" that was emailed to me for leaving it int he shopping cart while signed into an account. This one did not work either. I still not completely convinced and have not pulled the trigger yet,

 

I saw on another review that it uses the pin hole mic on the left bezel under the buttons. It apparently does not use the vehicle mic. The reviewed claimed that the quality on a phone call was not as good as factory. I read the comments on that review and the op ended up returning the unit.

 

The head unit is pretty heavy, feels like the stock one maybe heavier. I like that it's a single din vs stock double din to help with stuffing the wires back in.

Found the obd harness it's green coming off of the head unit.

Getting all wires run is ok, it's tight back there, not like older vehicles all open.

Stuck the GPS antenna in the center of the dash and ran it to driver side then in the dash from there. Came with double sided tape.

Oh, the air bag light, on the stock controls after you remove the panel, then the circuit board, you have to remove the little tabs that hold the front panel on to get it out, then push really hard on the 2 gray pieces 1 at a time, use something flat or round, it took force, the 2 plastic pieces pop out, cut my hand trying.

Trying to think of stuff to help you guys out. I'll let know more in a bit when I get it in.

 

That's the only problem I had with mine and mine uses an external Mic. And the very low sub output rca with no way to turn it up. I even tried an inline amplifier. after having it for like a year I pulled it out.

Here's the harness from the radio plugged into the stock harness, simple plug and play. I have a yellow video cable for my headrest tv's.

 

Remember to use the yellow clips that are on your stock radio and put them on the new one. I couldn't put on the broken one. It's up and running! Looks damn awesome! My hvac controls worked right off the start.

Looks really nice, curious to hear how the internal mic performs in comparison to factory. How long did it take you to install and is this something a novice could accomplish.

I do have a question about the OBD2 interface, I have a Rockford Fosgate remote start/gps and I think that uses the OBD2 plug, if so I assume the OBD2 with this HU will not work?

I really wanted to like this......but the more i look at it, the more things i see that i don't like. I cant handle not having a volume knob, and i'm not a fan of the homescreen layout.
