Feel free to laugh but I need your help…and I am going crazy.

My dealer received approval from Toyota to replace by running boards due to the powder coat peeling and bubbling on the top of them.

I spent four hours at the dealer today for them to tell me that the ones they ordered for my truck were too shout (GAS double cab length).

Here’s were I think the confusion lies. On a non-hybrid, there is the double cab and crew max cabs. On a hybrid, the cab that I have is technically called a “double cab” in their parts catalogue (even says double cab on Toyota’s parts website) even though it is the size of the crew max.

Confused yet? Yeah, apparently my parts department can’t figure it out. When they ordered the replacement, they got the gas version double cab - or the actual shorter cab running boards - not the “double cab” crew max hybrid length. Why my dealer’s parts department can’t figure this out is beyond me.

Does anyone know what the part number is for the crew cab (real crew cab) of the black powder coated running boards shown below? I believe it’s PT925-34223, but, Toyota parts says they only fit the crew max gas version and not the crew max hybrid version…

Photo of my truck attached to aid in this endeavor.

    Welcome from NY.

Did they look on the actual part that is on there currently? I'm sure it has a part # on it.

    Thank you.

We searched and couldn’t find it. Our guess was it’s on the sticker that was faded and beat up from the elements as it was on the bottom of it.

It baffles me that it’s this hard to find the replacement part.

I had PT925-34222 on my crew max non-hybrid (as per the sticker under them); with that being said, putting that number into this website ( https://toyotaparts.lakelandtoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-assist-steps-running-boards-pt92534222 ) says it fits both hybrid and non-hybrid vehicles

PT925-34223 on the same site shows the same exact cost, same photo, with a slightly different description.

I would tell the dealer to order it and if it isn't right it can sit in their parts department... If Toyota authorized the replacement, it isn't on you to find the right part for them

thank you. The part ending in 34222 shows it’s for a Double Cab…so, maybe that’s it.
    It shouldn’t be this hard.

Yea I was confused by their naming convention... Specifically because double cab is used as the moniker for the smaller Tundra cab, but the larger Tacoma cab.

On my crewmax the sticker on the running boards said D-CAB as well

I've seen that happen with a number of vehicles when they're less than 18mos old, or when moving into a new generation, at least until that latest gen has been out for a year or two.

In which case you can potentially use the Toyota Parts Deal website. BUT DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM, seriously, a ton of people here, and at the sister TacomaWorld site have had problems with Toyota Parts Deal. They aren't to be trusted.

Oh it’s not for me to order - just trying to figure out what part the dealer needs to order for a warranty swap.

we think we found the right ones now though. Didn’t think we’d have that much trouble.

Gotcha! Guess I should've scrolled up and noticed what part you were talking about.

YSK: Toyota advertises parts like that, with their part numbers, in their brochures. They also sells nearly all their add-ons like that at the national parts site (https://autoparts.toyota.com). You can go there and hit the Exterior Accessories section to pull part numbers.

    Link to that section: https://autoparts.toyota.com/products/category/exterior-accessories

Plug in your year/model, and the list will sort out stuff for your truck. I plugged that in, then typed "STEP" in the top bar and got a gaggle of part numbers. You'd need to figure out which is matching color. There's clearly 132 returns here, so ... Chances are the base number in the top two results here is correct, and the last digit is the color, where 0 may be black, 1 may be chrome, 2 may be grey, etc.

That’s what we did and the part number they ordered (which was on that site) was literally the double cab version (short version).

I had the same issue, and I work for a dealer owned by the same group. I went over and talked to the parts manager and in a notebook he had part numbers for steps specifically because common sense would make you think C was for Crew Cab and D was for Double cab, but it's apparently opposite. He said after a few times of the wrongs ones coming in, he figured out the issue. I have a non-hybrid platinum CrewMax.
