My wife is a terrible deal maker. I make the deals. She cringes if she’s in the room, so she stays home now. She literally feels bad for the salesman. F that guy.

Wife also wanted a GX, price tag said no. Test drove the new 4Runner (to replace our 5th gen) and looked at the LC and we didn’t like’em. After some research and lots of test drives, ended up with a new 26 Honda Passport Trailsport. Feels like we got all we wanted.

Me and you brother. My wife won't go with me anymore when I am negotiating. And I am not even jewish LOL. When I buy something I make sure they lose money :) 15 years ago when I built my house I was still negotiating after the contract was closed and signed. They had to re-open the contract for some amendments and I slipped in another $35K off the initial price or I was walking. The house was so custom that they basically said yes to my demands. Now, that's the art of the negotiating a deal :) Another time I got kicked outta of the dealership :) Long story.

My wife keeps telling, we have the money, why you always so stingy. I say, I like to keep that money in my pocket and with my family if I can so is worth the fight. Fuck them anyway. Is them or you who gets taken.

The Trailsport is nice. Me wife got the blue Pilot Trailsport, a 2024. This is our 4th Pilot actually and two 2025 CRV's for me kids. Honda is as solid as the Toyota.

    This.

one more point to belabor this GX topic:

the rear seats on EVERY vehicle on this platform.....are shitty.

I believe they are the EXACT same as our '15 4Runner.

Same here until mine fell in love with the new Infiniti QX80 at a car show we went to earlier this year.
I didn’t exactly veto that idea, but I made it pretty clear I wouldn’t be happy, followed by data showing poor resell value, reliability, and the fact that Nissan is damned near bankrupt.
Then I told her I wouldn’t help with any part of the purchase process. All that combined thankfully changed her mind.

This is a common saying I never use anymore after someone pointed out the key meaning many years ago. This basically states that a man should forgo his happiness for hers. This saying is like fingernails down a chalkboard.
As men, we need to be careful on the message we deliver. :hattip:

    Exactly what I do.

The wife and I make these decisions together. She had a laundry list of reasons I shouldn't buy another Dodge Cummins diesel 9 years ago. She wasn't wrong.

I am old school. My take on it is that sometime you can't fix crazy so why fight it LOL. Pick your battles. It works for me. Marriage is always a compromise, give some, take some, never perfect or even.

Wife has wanted an Escalade forever. 8 years ago I made the biggest vehicle mistake of my car life meeting her 90% of the way trading in her Acura MDX for a Denali XL. After replacing the entire AC system, front suspension, tail lights 4 times, HID bulbs multiple times, and a dealing with a possessed engine fan and roof buffering all in 4 years, I swore off GM forever. 6.2 was the only nice thing about that vehicle.

Thats hilarious, my wife has a Gwagen passion as well. I don't get it, there's a few in our area and I don't like the Kardashian spec we get in North America. If it had a snorkel, steel wheels and was UN spec, maybe, but a G63 or whatever, does nothing for me. Luckily I've gotten through to her that Mercedes are basically a warranty only purchase as they are reliable as a tool from Temu/Ali baba.

Friend of mine just about gave away a 2018 Escalade the other day.
About a month ago he listed it for sale, wife works in some fashion industry and chases these boutique sales ect, she might be in north carolina or arizona so she racked up some miles. 2018 with 275,000 miles and the listing went something like this:
2018 Escalade, on its second engine, third trans and its about to need a trans, $6,500 obo.

On the outside it still looked pretty nice, i knew she stayed in the road but i didnt know it had that many miles on it. Either way you look at it purchase price back then was about $76,000, and with the laundry list of stuff they have replaced, most likely a set or two of coil packs, multiple sets of brakes and front hubs, ect, an engine and two trans, probably a drivers seat or two plus who knows what other electronics they have likely put $30,000+ into the vehicle in the past 7 years. Thats just nuts.

GM folks will tell you at least she got 16mpg instead of 14.

There is no way in hell I would spend money on any GM nowadays with AFM. So that takes me back to 2004 on trucks/cars/SUVs. 2013 for Corvettes. Wouldn't buy a GM diesel after 2022...and in reality probably not after 2019.

GM had the 5.3 L33 (Aluminum block, no AFM) in '05 thru '07. (I have a low mileage one on a stand waiting for me to build.) So that gives you a few more years with trucks.

If I bought a diesel, I'd probably look for good specimen with the last of the non-DEF Duramax. A buddy of mine has a 2009 LMM 2500, and it has been a really great truck for him.

Oh I thought it was as early as 2005. My mistake. I have a 2003 5.3L in my shed right now with 65000 miles.

Some are hit and miss. I have a buddy with a 2010 lmm that has been a nightmare. All injector and DPF issues. He doesn't treat his right though and does short trips with a bunch of daily driving. If you tow with a modern diesel you will not have many issues.

The wife fell in love with the new GX550. They were in short supply for a while, not sure about now. Folks were ordering them with about a 6 month lead time. She had leased two GX460's and more recently an RX350. We purchased the RX when the lease was up, the best deal at the time - Lexus had increased their leasing pricing significantly post CV19. The GX 460 was nice but a bit too soft of a ride IMHO. The RX 350 was much more fun to drive, even had a sport mode .
We didn't order a new GX. Our contact at the dealership called last October to let her know that one (a nicer model) was in route and unspoken for.
She loves it. I am a bit underwhelmed for the price. It is nice. The electronics interface / touch screen is actually a bit overwhelming to me.
    Happy wife.....
Edit: To piss her off I call it her "Bronco" LOL. (Which it does somewhat remind me of) And when we see nicer Broncos out and about I always point them out and say "look babe another car like yours...." LOL

Taking my wife's Yukon Denali in for 9am to check for the blown motor recall and get some 40w oil in it before her road trip in two weeks. Fingers crossed. We love the car, and if the motor doesn't blow, we will have no regrets. Depending on where the motor blows, and how good my dealer is, we still might not have too many regrets :)
