So after having to replace my shift knob (somehow it has some cracks in it)

I noticed a few people also added boots ~ so I did that. then my wife went to take the truck & was like "Wtf, I dont know what gear im in" despite me showing the gauge cluster

    she wasnt impressed :(

sO I decided to make a retainer clip to allow the boot, but also still show the gear selection

still very much a work in progress, but hope to have everything worked out by the weekend & have a final version 3d printed

I would be very interested in the STL when you are finished.

    Real nice!

FWIW, I also wanted to be able to see the shift indicators with the boot, but was able to tuck the edge down in between the trim pieces. The piece with the labels/letters can come off carefully and is held on with double-sided tape.

Ahh this is good to know

I may scrap this idea, getting these curved surfaces is a pain....printed 4 tests so far and still need to tweak it

I didn't think I could tuck it like that but also didn't try

It’s a tight fit, but it works. Just need new double-sided tape

Yea tried, but way to tight and shallow for my taste

Back to designing and going to print the retainer

What good are the characters? They don't indicate a damn thing in my truck. Only the instrument cluster indicates lever position.

    Almost there...
have to fix the filet at the top left & shrink the right side inner bevel down
then design a clip/retainer, to lock the material & also be removable

    An old tube sock, maybe..?

I just need SOMETHING to get rid of the chrome around the shift gate and cup holders. I get blinded a couple times a day by the reflection off of those things!

Interested to see if this goes anywhere.

gotta know when to hold em & know when to fold em

well I folded them....after about 10 more prints, got all working right, but couldnt/didnt have enough material to make a retainer that could clip in / out

so I trimmed the leather, lifted the selector panel off the 2 sided tape & trimmed around the light holes, & then push it back together. then wrapped the silver in black Vinyl ....Not loving it because its super glossy ....but its temp until I order the AJT stuff
