Poor man’s pappy is actually 2 parts Weller 12 to 3 parts 107. I’m sure the SR and 107 would taste great anyways, though. All the Wellers have a similar profile

Picked this up yesterday, if you are a fan of the typical Heaven Hill flavor profile, which I am not you will like this. It is a good bourbon lots of flavor and a nice bite.

    What's a true Kentucky bourbon?
Aged in white oak barrels that have bene charred, sometimes with flavored woods. You cannot re-use a charred barrel to make another batch of bourbon.
The old distilleries also had a number of requirements for the water source used to make the mash, carbonate levels, and hardness levels were specified. That is why the oldest distilleries are in the center of the state, near a high carbonate and limestone water source.

Pretty sure you forgot to mention grain requirements within the mash bill, proof entering the barrel, proof at bottling, and an often overlooked requirement is no color or flavor additives

Good point! Probably the most important requirements for bourbon. At least 51% corn, secondary grains can be any combination of wheat, rye, or malted barley. Barrel entry proof cannot exceed 125 and minimum bottling proof is 80. Even more requirements are added when talking about bottled in bond as well.

From multiple inside sources I've always been told that Weller 12 and Pappy 12 is the same exact mash bill. Only difference is the bottle in which it's sold. And the price. Julien tastes every Pappy twelve barrel and if it isn't Pappy twelve to him, it goes in the Weller 12 bottle.

How true is all this? Only the distillers at Sazerac know the whole truth.

There are a lot of bourbons with the same mash bill, but it will come down to age, rickhouse location, etc. Can get quite a difference in taste even with the same mash bill

I mean yeah, Buffalo Trace mashbill #2 is spread out pretty far and wide. Same with the wheated mash bill they use for Weller and pappy. And of course rickhouse location has a huge play into the end result. Im just retelling the same story I've heard for close to a decade of doing business with BT.

Understood. And at least from Sazerac, MSRP isn't too far apart, $40 vs $80. It's only on the secondary that the difference becomes outrageous

I found that Booker's hanging out at one of the local shops a couple of weeks ago and grabbed one also.

Booker's is never one of my favorites, but it's definitely a different and unique pour!!!

That btl would've been gone by 2014 if I had it. I'm impressed that it has lasted this long for you.

I was out cruising on a nice afternoon yesterday and stopped into a place I had never been in before and in their "special cabinet" they had a bottle of Blantons. I asked the price and the guy said "$175", what a shame I told him, but he apologized and said it is what they were told to ask for it.

$99 is the new MSRP for Blantons around here and in Tennessee. I wouldn’t pay more for it then that

Ouch, it's a cool bottle to have (display purposes) but not worth that. We are getting them pretty consistently for $80-90 here in CA. Costco had them for $65 the other week. If you ever really want one, DM me, happy to help out.
