Valve noise

So I've notice that my Tundra at idle/low rpms sounds almost like a diesel engine with kind of a valve clank like noise? Is that normal? If so, any idea what causes that?

The top end of the engine has quite a bit going on, they're known to be a bit tickity.

mine sounded like diesel new. even a co-worker (an older gentleman) asked me if I bought a diesel since I was considering either a diesel Silverado or the Tundra ... he said it sounds like a diesel!

wait another 800 to 1000 miles and report back. mine got very quiet after I think 800 miles or so ... it no longer has the loud ticking sound and is VERY quiet now!

 

Mine already has 20k miles on it and obviously the sound is still there. I bought it used so I can't say if the sound is less than when it was new?

 

I dumped a quart of Duralube in mine the last oil change, quieted down quite a bit.

 

Normal. Our engines have 4 camshafts at the top of the engine instead of a single cam buried in the middle of the block.
