I'm camping solo in my DoubleCab in a week. I bought a pickup-truck specific tent but decided against it as I already have another ground traditional tent small enough to fit in the bed of my rig. Anybody has any experience with placing a tent in the bed of our Tundras?

If you get a camper shell, this tent works nicely with it. I've used it well over 100 nights in various elements.

I have one of those truck bed tents, also have a backpacking tent that will fit in my bed. Use the truck bed tent. Way more room to sit up inside with a cot and it securely attaches to the sides of the bed. My truck bed tent also has a more durable floor than my backpacking tent, which is nice because my bed is rhinolined and that stuff would probably tear up my good tent.

Hiked the mountain in the background last week. Now I'm excited to get the camper out of the Tundra until hunting season. It's nice to have it in there, but I get sick of driving around with it, and paying for the extra gas.

I read this as "grave site" and was thinking to myself, "Ah ... that's what the pile of rocks with the green/blue/yellow is..."

Only to re-read after thinking, "Wait ... dead body WHAT?"

Now I'm wondering what/who is under the pile of rocks...

Yeah. 5,000ft over 3.5 miles. Hurt more on the way down...

People love piling rocks. I mostly don't mind. When I first got to the top I noticed someone had made a cross out of wood and put it up there. I was a little annoyed but then I saw the Tibetan prayer flags and figured well, at least we're not being exclusive...

First thing I thought about when I read your post was Gaia and Captain Planet.
    https://youtu.be/OiYjTb3opAA?si=g19-Ow_X8T-fbbfc
I'm a little annoyed that Gaia isn't in the intro, since she's prominent in the show.
I wonder who would win if the planeteers and Captain Planet fought the Toxic Crusaders?

So we don't clog up the thread with irrelevant BS, here's my truck at an abandoned building out in the county. It's probably the most scenic pic I've taken since Jambo in May.

Nice spot, did you have to reserve it early? I'm in PDX and really think I need to hit you up about some of your camping spots. Last place I went was about 40 miles south of Estacada, south of the burn scar, there are some pretty nice dispersed sites. I need to get up into the higher elevations while it's nice out.

Not this one. First come gets it. It’s a crazy drive to get here though. Headed into the goat rocks wilderness this weekend. I’m up here bumming around packwood for a bit.

Bunch of peak views from this lookout: Mt Adams, Hood, and St Helens. And off in the distance….Mt Snowy. Gonna climb that this weekend
Used to be bunches of these fire towers when looking at historical maps on gaia.

NICE. I was a fire lookout for a summer. I still have a lot of working years left in my life, but it'll probably turn out to be the best job I ever had. And you can't get those jobs anymore, except maybe a very, very few. No need for people up on mountain tops anymore with all the satellites.

Mine was on a section of land, landlocked by private, so I had no visitors. Had to cross a private ranch, get to public, park, hike 2 miles straight up, then I was there.

@MT-Tundra i always wanted to do that. Thru hiked the AT and PCT, did a stint in peace corps Kazakhstan, and traveled some in India and Nepal. I thought a summer as a lookout would be fun and I could really rip through some books I had wanted to read. Just born too late I guess. I do own a 1930’s log cabin at the base of Mt Hood. I get a bit of solitude up there. The girlfriend tolerates it. Glad you got the chance for that adventure.

You got way more done than me! The lookout job would have been a nice cherry on top, but I'd say you didn't miss out on much with that list of travels.

But yeah, the summer I worked as a lookout was...2005 I think. Pretty sure they took the whole thing down 4-5 years later. It was a Montana State, DNRC lookout. Of course the USFS ones are all rentals now. Better than torn down.

And yeah, it's a great chance to read, play music, write, whatever's your thing that you can't get to otherwise. About once an hour I'd spend 15 minutes scanning the horizon. Assuming no smokes, back to reading.

Damn. Luckily the one I lived in was like what mthoodbill rented. A tiny cabin on the peak of a mountain, not one of those metal lightning rods up a staircase.
