Took a road trip this weekend to South Texas and while running down I-10 I found myself going 85-90 MPH to keep up with the flow of traffic. I gotta say I felt like I was abusing that 5.7 pushing it that hard that long.

How do you guys and gals feel about running your rig at 85-90 for 3-4 straight hours?

No issues. These motors are built for higher rpms. I run 3k rpm in 3rd gear on my 2000 4.7 for hours on our way to Missouri to camp, pulling a 5000# TT. I ran my 2019 5.7 in S4 for hours at 2500+rpm with 4k rpm runs through the hills. They make some racket, but unless you’re overloaded, I don’t think they give a shit.

I drive like an old man and set the CC at 68mph. I dont like fighting traffic so I just chill in the slow lane and let folks pass. I've also go a brick of a camper on Big Booty Judy, so keeping it at 68 gets me 13-15mpg vs 9-10. Now with 5.29s, she gets up and goes too, so if I need to pass and run fast for a bit, there is no issue.

If I am on schedule, I just go the speed limit (as determined by GPS, NOT the speedometer). If in a hurry, I have been known to go significantly faster.

In normal everyday driving I generally run about 10 over, so 75 on the freeway.

If I'm trying to get somewhere I might be 80+ but I try not to spend a lot of time at 20+ MPH over the posted speed limit.

Now if we're in the middle of the desert going straight for hours on end, all bets are off.

Anymore I'm getting paranoid about having my insurance dinged for speeding and seeing my rates go up even more. Who knows what apps gather and sell your driving information. I wonder at what point the insurance company thinks you deserve a rate hike for speeding? 2 over? 10 over? History has shown most cops ignore anything less than 10 over so that's where I live. Just driving along trying to be the Gray Man.

Now I've been hearing ads on the radio about anything over the posted speed limit is considered speeding. Bunch of fuddy duddies.

In Bamaland if you go 10mph over the highway speed limit YOU WILL get your doors blown off by the advancing mob of other cars/trucks. Which most often includes a State Bull in that speeding throb.

As mentioned, all depends on location regarding speeds, but also as mentioned, let the thing rip. Peak HP and Torque are not down low. it wants to run.

Als0 as previously mentioned, I have had zero issues running for hour on end in the 3-4k rpm range, occasionally higher, while towing heavy. This is really a RPM vs Engine Load discussion, and load tends to be lower the higher in the revs you go. Just don't bounce it off the rev limiter and try not to look at the fuel gauge. :)

I will usually run about 75,-80, not worried about the engine at all, but I’m running Grabber Mud tires, and it’s not like this thing gets decent gas mileage. Seems like over about 65 of so is a pretty noticeable drop in MPG. I we need to cruise at 90 we take the wife’s camery, 90 isn’t much different than 70 in that

    Nice try, officer!

Jkjk. I wouldn't worry about it tbh. I typically run at 79, unless traffic is going faster, and my truck has never blinked

Depending on the highway/freeway I'm driving anywhere from 60-70 mph normally. On my road trip in June, 70-80 mph from Washington to Nevada. 85-90 mph on the way back up to Washington, with the tach at 3k RPMs and the truck loved it.

When towing with my 2012 Tundra, it rarely seen below 3400 rpm. Not sure I would worry about it.

I have zero worry about holding at any speed, but I generally cruise right at 75 when I’m home in CO. It’s the speed limit, and I’m still rolling around on stock brakes with 37’s, so a little extra cushion for emergency stops is never a bad idea.

Well considering speed limits here range from 70-85, it’s not uncommon for me to be going anywhere between 75-90. Doesn’t really matter what speed I drive as I still get the same 13mpg.
