Quick check-in after a nice long weekend at a relatives cabin up north. (Lake Vermillion for those that know lake country-MN.)
Took a few pics that might be worthy of posting but that might have to wait another day or so.

After nearly perfect weather all weekend, came home to gray skies and rumbles of thunder.
Storm moved in faster than any I've ever been in. Had to be 60+ mph winds.
Split our one remaining maple in the front yard completely down the middle, and ended up in my neighbor's front yard, just missing his house and driveway full of cars.
And my cellphone just quit working.
Good thing I took tomorrow off. Cutting up a partially downed tree is not how I planned on spending my "extra" day off.

But hey, the truck averaged 17.8 mpg for the trip, so there's that.

Vandals? No lug in them nuts. Ironically I was on my way to Discount Tire to address a shimmy, after having found a couple of wheel weights in my driveway.

I’m not superstitious but I am a little stitious. Hoping it stops at 3!

Too many boosts going through an “OEM style” exhaust. I’m supercharged and tuned, so fueling looks good. Talking to Keith/Dirty Deeds, we determined the tailpipe is likely the culprit being that it’s about 0.5” narrower than true OE. (New exhaust & tailpipe ordered through Keith)

    To say the least!

Mrs. PolishedTRD and I were 1,200 miles away from home in No. Idaho, house shopping, which momentarily turned into truck shopping when the fuel pump started to fail.

Although I got the truck running right and got us home, it ultimately lead to the wife shopping for a new Sequoia

Just seeing the news about New York. Some nutbag drove from Nevada to NYC and shot up an office building. Killed an NYPD officer who was in the lobby as well.

    No word on motives yet.

    People suck. :(

P.S. Killed himself as well, according to reports.

I don't want to start a new thread on this, I'd rather hear from y'all.

For those of you who have retired, how did you know it was the right time?
I'm reading through all this retirement buyout stuff from work, and it keeps repeating, if I apply and I'm accepted, my employment is terminated permanently.
If I apply for the buyout and they accept it, I cannot change my mind.
Not that I want the option to go back, but it's weird after working for someplace for 40 years, that's it, I'm done.
Although that is how I feel, I feel like I am done, and my wife agrees..

I've figured out the last few months being off that sitting behind a steering wheel for 13 hours a day, 5 days a week, is not beneficial to my general health.
Neither is getting up at 4:00 am to be at work at 5:30 am and not getting home until 7:00 pm.
I'm not getting any younger either.

My wife is going to have one of her attorneys look over everything to make sure I didn't miss something in the fine print.
    But this might be happening..:eek2::cool:

Ice cream that taste like toothpaste, no thanks. You can't put enough chocolate chips in it to taste good. That's like eating trail mix just for the m&m's but worse.

I don’t look at as retiring. For me, I just chose to end a chapter in my career. You can still have a new gig, if you want one.

You will still make money, you’ll still pay taxes. There will be pros from the old job that will be missed.

A big picture budget helps, and then add a min. 20-30% cushion/contingency on top of that, is what I did.

Some people are trained to compare themselves to you. Some will judge you, and won’t like what your choices are. It’s not their fault, don’t even be mad about it. They are just trying to figure out their life and what they’ve been told about life.

I can remember taking the kids to tour the Blue Bell Creamery in Brenham TX

it was like Willy Wonka's place.

for the strawberry flavor fans...they were making the strawberry flavor...we watched them add the freshly made strawberry concoction.

the ice cream bar machine was running at full speed....it was making the mini bars...which are like crack.

My wife can't seem to figure out why our pantry is always so messy. She has some kind of a weird obsession with opening something, eating about three quarters of it then opening another one.

We have two or three partially full boxes of each kind of cereal the kids eat.

    These are all rice cakes.

Don't want to trash the brand as I'm sure some will swear by it but I never buy Blue Bell as it is another corn syrup/soy/seed oil chemical concoction. If I'm going to have ice cream, I'll have Haagen Dazs, where the ingredients aren't made by chemists in a lab.

Next time you guys are in the store, compare the ingredients label of Blue Bell vs Haagen Dasz.

    I'm with you.

The wife loves snacking but she occasionally feels guilty about it so she'll ask me to buy something "healthy", eat it for a while then forget about it.

Auto parts are stupid expensive here. It's going to cost me between $180 and $300 to replace the front brake pads and rotors on the Corolla. Friend of mine in the US just did the ones on his car for $75.
