When we were leaving after a full day of volley ball yesterday my little one asks me if she can have Canes. So if course like any loving father would do, I looked it up on my iPhone maps (because I don't use Google) and I see one in town. The drive through line was so full I couldn't even pull into the parking lot. Needless to say we didn't eat at canes til we got to 136th off I-25.

Another note to this story is that I finally passed the Buc-ee's both on the way up and the way home. Didn't stop there either.

 

Yup, that place used to be worse! They were forced into a renovation, which added dual drive thru lanes. They were cued all the way out onto College Avenue for a while, causing accidents. That’s a State Highway, not good.

But even with their modifications, the flow is still not great, and they don’t keep it going like some other places. The Chik-Fil-A further south is also shoe-horned in, but they have employees out there getting orders moved through. For Canes, parking on one of the public streets to the east is the best option, and then walking in.

Seriously, also check out Music City Hot Chicken. That place is really good. Plus the side salad is good, and they have a beet salad sometimes.

 

The problem with this poll is that you cannot generalize all ice cream; this poll is flawed. The manufacturer of the ice cream makes a giant difference on the quality of any flavor. Not all vanilla is created equal - or any other flavor. For example, Baskin Robbins' World Class Chocolate is a premier flavor in a creamy ice cream. Yet, other types of chocolate are terrible. When I was a child/youth I ate a lot of peanut butter. Perhaps I ate too much peanut butter because now that I am old I can eat no peanut butter anything!

 

Future grandkid update: We have a boy, due early Feb. 2026. The family name will be passed on to the next generation. Super excited... am I even old enough for this?

I guess if you really want some Buc-ee's, maybe we can get @j-utah to drive down there for you. Probably only like 50 miles R/T for him depending on where he's at in FOCO. If he thinks his truck can make it that far, that is.

Tolleson getting a Buc-ees would make more sense to me. I think somewhere around Chandler/Gilbert would have been better compared to Goodyear. I'm just thinking of all the time I lived out there, I never had a reason to go to Goodyear for anything...
