Tell me all the reasons I should have bought a 2nd Gen Tundra.

Wife and I bought a 2006 4.7 L Double Cab and we like it a great deal but after looking into things a bit, it seems a 2nd Gen. with the 5.7 L might be a better truck.

(In our case we didn't have much of a choice. We needed a bigger truck to pull our mowing trailer and what we expected to need to pull later...and a client had a 2006 Double Cab he was selling. We bought that and he died two weeks later. Timing!)

How about some pros and cons of 2nd Gen Tundra over 1st. Gen Tundra?

I would be grateful for the good fortune, and looking at the pros of the 1G over the 2G.

From the point of your question. 2G over 1G --- More HP/Torque, greater pulling / towing loads (this is not a strong point for Tundras in general), more spacious interior, safety enhancements, parts availability.

Solid advice and we agree as we thank God for that truck every day and before we bought it, we prayed about whether or not to buy it. I know about the timing chain replacing the timing belt and I assume the LBJ issue was corrected in Second Gen but what else?

Does the 2nd Gen double cab really pull 10,000 pounds?

General rule of thumb, yes. Higher trim levels (SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, Pro, 1794) and different packages (26 vs 38 gal. fuel tank, suspension, etc.) can decrease that pull/payload rating. On a 2G (7-13 year) and 2.5G (14-21 year) trucks payload is what you have to consider as well. DC configuration does tend to have slightly higher tow numbers (pull/payload) than a CrewMax. For example, I have a 2021 Tundra CM SR5 TRD Sport and my pull is 9800 and payload is 1300 lbs.

Praise God, His timing is perfect. Hope some of this helps.

2nd gen is also full-size truck, 1st gen was a tad smaller physically.

Thanks guys. Bed space is important so I would not seek a Crew Max. We carry a lot of stuff though that takes up the backseat so Double Cab or bust!

I'm not one to buy something and then get something else right away, only curious as to advantages of the 2nd Gen in case we came across a good deal. We'd then sell the current Tundra.

Any really heavy load, I think we'd need a diesel truck for.

Happened to pass buy and noticed a 2007 double cab for sale at a local garage. Lots of body rust. Wife was not enthused and neither was I.

I think one would just about have to go down south or out west to find something without body rust.

Look around the SW. Cleanest trucks available for rust.

Having owned a first gen dbl cab and now the 2nd gen dbl cab I can say that even through the 2nd gen is bigger the back seat is a much smaller space for passengers. I love my 5.7 though and it is absolutely worth the trade off.

I found my 08 Limited double cab by searching zip codes for Southern California. Rust free solid frame on mine, one owner, that I just bought.
