Afternoon. I just finished an epic trip with my tundra from Toronto area to Quebec-New Brunswick-Nova Scotia and back. Roughly around ~4500KM round trip. I was towing our Travel trailer which has a GVWR of 7517lbs and 4600lbs dry.

I was curious which tow setting was more efficient so I switched back and forth a bit. The back of the tundra was loaded with gear, the trailer had quite a bit in there too. No issues towing whatsoever. The only troublesome thing is fuel mileage. The SR5 6 cylinder is a beast though.

In Tow+ I seemed to average around ~27.1 L/100km and it had more pep than needed. I felt like it kept the RPM higher for more response when needed and also kept the vehicle from gaining too much speed on declines.

In Tow Haul I seemed to average around ~26 L/100km and it still seemed to have enough pep when needed it just didn’t instantly search for that high RPM so acceleration was slower. It also let me gain a bit more speed on declines.

Hope this data helps someone feel free to discuss. I’m going make another post about an error I started getting on my way home on the dash to do with Towing.

    Thanks
    Cam

    21.7 L/100Km = 8.6mpg
    26.0 L/100Km = 9mpg

I think the difference between tow/haul and tow/haul+ is largely in the transmission programming.
I’m sure there’s many other variables adjusted accordingly.
Have driven many HD vehicles over the years at work, mostly GM but all were domestics and it was painful how bad most of these automatics were.
This 3rd Gen Tundra 10spd. is the best automatic I’ve ever experienced by far…

I’ve had a pile of built trans for my Cummins trucks over the years, this 10 speed in our trucks is hands down the best engine/ trans combo I’ve ever driven. It’s always in the right gear and powerband

It honestly felt great that’s for sure. I did a trip down to Florida with the AT4 I had with a 3.0L diesel towing the same rig as mentioned above and it averaged roughly 18L/100KM but I had to fill the DEF fluid every two gas ups while towing. Was nice to have while waiting for the 3rd gen to come out. How do you lads feel about the difference in fuel economy there?
