3 years with no oil change

What a nice looking truck and great find. Many of us had to search for months to find one that clean. I would not go anywhere near a flush of any kind. Just follow the factory intervals.

I see that yours does not come with a factory skid plate at that trim and 4x2. You can have mine free; I would just ask you cover shipping.

 

Great looking Tundra. I can verify that low mile trucks exist, my 2021 just turned over to 5025 miles today. Medical issues tend to slow a person down a bit, but I’m still moving. Congrats on your find.

 

I wouldn't worry about it but if you're one of those that just has to know, send an oil sample to blackstone and they'll tell you w/absolute certainty how the deferred maintenance affected the wear of the truck (I'm guessing it to be zero)...

The oil from the possible 3-year no-oil-change period is long gone, as it was changed before I purchased the vehicle. So, how will sending them a sample of the oil in there now tell me anything about the degradation of that old oil? I am not arguing I have never looked into oil testing and am ignorant on this topic.

 

This is very nice of you to offer thank you. I would not mind having protection under there, and it had crossed my mind. Do you have to take the skid plate off every time you change the oil, or are there cutouts to access those areas? May I PM you to discuss shipping details?

 

I think your overthinking it a good deal, but one thing you could do is take it on a good long road trip, put it through its paces so to speak. Then get back home and change the oil again, set a baseline, then just drive and maintain. I mean you have good clean fresh oil in it right now.

 

I wasn't really saying that my concern would be w/the condition of the oil. In fact, I really don't think you have anything to worry about. However, the purpose of testing the oil at your next oil change would be of benefit if you were concerned about any sustained damaged to the engine's internals. Running your oil for its standard 5k interval, then sending it in, and getting results back w/confirmation of no excessive metals, etc. may give you extra peace of mind in knowing your engine is fine...

 

You can either remove the (4) M8-1.25 bolts holding it to the frame and pivot it down on the front hooks, or remove the four bolts and also the two screws holding the front bumper trim to it and remove entirely to access the filter housing.

Okay, I changed the oil today and then disassembled the filter and inspected the oil from the oil pan. I found no metal or any sludge, so I think I am good. I may do it one more time in 3k miles or wait and check again at the normal 5k. I know you guys may think I am crazy, but I have wanted a good truck for a long time, and it took a long time to get here, and I am anal about my stuff.

 

Nice find for sure! Well done! Oil should be changed at least every six months regardless of mileage. It collects moisture. That said, I wouldn't be super concerned at this odometer reading. Just keep 5w-30 in her year round and change that PCV valve about every 40k or so. Avoid dealerships like the plague!

 

I just put 0w 20 in it when I changed it. I know there are different schools of thought on that topic, but being new, I just put in what it called for and then can adjust as I learn. Do you find the dealerships to be of no use? I know they are overpriced, but since there is a fairly long warranty on the truck through Toyota, if something were to come up, I would think I would take it there if it were free to fix under the gold certification.

 

You can read horror stories for a month or more on this subject. If you want someone else taking care of maintenance and repairs, find a well rounded one man show or a very small multi person shop that has been in business for at least 5 years. Talk to folks in your community and ask lots of questions.
