Juice (1992). Tubi. A little over the top crime thriller but a decent watch.

Running Scarred (2006). Tubi. Good action flick with the late Paul Walker.

Vanilla Sky (2001). Paramount. A remake of …
Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes, 1997). HBO Max.

I watched Vanilla Sky first and was starting to get a little bored and mind-twisted until the plot twist was revealed in the end. Then, I wanted to rewatch it, but I found out Vanilla Sky is a remake of Spanish-made Abre Los Ojos. So I watched that and enjoyed it a bit more. The Spanish version is a bit more character-driven and dark. Both are good watch. I also prefer the original film title and how it is incorporated with the storyline.

Glengarry Glen Ross (1992). Prime. Excellent cast. Although devoid of action sequences, the confrontational dialogues are sharp. Pacino was the sole oscar nominee but it should have been Lemmon.

Head (1968). Tubi. #33 on Rolling Sones’ list of 101 best movie soundtracks. Features the Monkees and I can see why it bombed at the box office.

Rock Around the Clock (1956). Tubi. Now how did this film not make it on Rolling Stones’ best movie soundtracks? RATC is in good company because also noticeably absent are La Bamba and The Wall. RATC features Bill Haley & The Comets, The Platters, Freddie Bell & His Bell Boys, and others. Considered the first full-length rock'n'roll movie, it created a sensation worldwide among the youth. The plot is a bit dorky but it is a good watch overall.

Melancholia (2011). Tubi. Similar in concept with Another Earth, which also released in 2011 but on a shoe string budget of about 100K compared to Melancholia’s 7 million. I liked Another Earth over Melancholia..

Under The Silver Lake (2018). Tubi. A bit quirky but entertaining. The unresolved question - who is the dig killer? Sam?

Ashes and Diamonds (1958). HBO Max. Well done Polish film, noir style; About end of WWII in Poland and a resistant’s soldier sent to assassinate a town’s communist candidate for office.

Bonnie and Clyde (1967). OK. Multiple Oscar nominee but, except for Dunaway’s performance, just not impressed with the film. This was Gene Wilder’s film debut.

The Wind’s Fierce, aka Trinity Sees Red (1970). Tubi. The acting is rough around the edges, but this spaghetti western has a good storyline.

Tokyo Story (1953). HBO Max. A bit long winded and lacking action sequences, but the film has a very compelling storyline - you may get misty eye like I did.

Grave of the Fireflies (1988). Netflix. Damn, probably the saddest film I’ve ever seen, and it’s an animation. It is a film, no matter how good it is, you prefer not to rewatch.

I watched a 2012 documentary about the K2 climbing expedition that went very bad. Some good live action photography, and some dramatized scene's that were really shocking. At one point, one of the women climbers, is following behind her husband on the descent, you hear this god awful crack, like a bomb going off, and an avalanche just sweeps the guy off the side of the mountain, he's gone and she witnessed every second of it. I always wanted to try mountaineering, but luckily I'm too old now.

Red Eye (2005). Netflix. Entertaining suspense thriller.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016). Netflix. Silly-funny.

Paris, Texas (1984). HBO Max. Very well made film. I had never heard of this film until recently, thus, a gem of a watch for me.

A Star is Born (1954). TCM. A bit long at three+ hours but Garland shined and the film moves along well. This is the second of the four Hollywood-made Star-is-Born movies.

Get Out (2017). HBO. That was pretty good. This is one reason I’ve never been hypnotized.

I Love You Phillip Morris (2009). Prime. Pretty funny. Good cast.

A Most Violent Year (2014). Prime. Good cast and a decent watch but could have been a network movie of the week after cutting off 30 minutes.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012). HBO. With that title, I was expecting a sports flick, haha. It was a little that but I enjoyed it. Very good acting ensemble. Until I read the film notes, I did not know Lawrence won an Oscar for her performance, which was good.

Billy Joel: And So It Goes (2025). HBO. Did not know he is on his 4th marriage. Good documentary - the 5 hours goes fast.

Parasite (2019). HBO. That was very entertaining. I got attached to our antiheros.

Have you seen the documentary Free Solo? If you’re afraid of heights, watching someone climb a 3,000-foot cliff with no ropes is pretty intense. Alex Honnold’s calm up there is both crazy and impressive to watch.

Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World (2017). Tubi. Good documentary spot lighting the native Americans that have contributed to rock n roll (incl hard rock and metal.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012). HBO. Among the better coming-of-age movies, and handles well a delicate subject matter.

Us (2019). Netflix. I did not find this horror flick scary/frightening at all, but it was a good watch.

The Player (1992). HBO. That was entertaining. Was not expecting so many cameos.

Sunshine Cleaning (2009). Tubi. Little gem of a movie with interesting subject matter. With Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, and Alan Arkin (whom my daughter got to meet informally in the last months of his life).

Better Off Dead (1985). HBO. Silly 80’s semi coming of age. Becoming a cult classic.

Fantastic Planet (1973). HBO. The Draags are a drag. What a peculiar French animation. Another cult status film.

Scanners (1981). HBO. Hokey storyline but graphic special effects have helped Scanners reach film cult status.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire. (2019). HBO. A bit dragged out but very well made french romance.

Tree of Life (2011). HBO. Great performances from Pitt and Chastain but questionable sequences like all the cosmos and dinosaur stuff.

The Last Emperor (1987). HBO. Good drama-history film of China’s last emperor.

Moll Flanders (1996). Tubi. Watchable time period drama - orphan becomes prostitute, finds love, loses love, has child, loses child, finds child, blah blah blah.

High Fidelity (2000). Prime. Sonic Death Monkey will be my next band’s name. Entertaining flick.

Dune: Parts 1 & 2 (2021/2024). HBO Max. Found the storyline redundant and uninspiring but did enjoy the performances and action sequences. Also not a fan of movies with messianic characters although I did enjoy The Matrix.

Law Abiding Citizen (2009). TNT. In such an over-the-top film, I was pulling for the anti-hero/villain.

Never Rarely Sometimes Always (2020). USA. #27 on Independent’s list of 47 brilliant films that didn’t get a single Oscar nomination. Agreed, both girls deserved to be nominees.

Life of Pi (2012). Netflix. Very well done. First acting gig for the lead and he did very well.

Have heard so many good things about mindhunter. I've started it a few times but never watched a full episode. Last night I started it again and actually wanted 2 full episodes. Not sure if I'm interested enough to finish the first season. Might give it another go later tonight for a 3rd episode...

Shadows and Fog (1991). A Woody Allen film, quirky but funny.

Ingrid Goes West (2017). An odd-beat dark comedy film involving mental health and social influencer.
