Heritage grille, fog lights, 35x12.5x20” Nitto, low profile toolbox, F/R tow hooks
Tried a set of the $199 3G Tundra rear recovery hooks from Amazon. They look close to the $329 NYTOPS rear recovery hooks. Weighed 44# shipped, and each bracket was 21#. Mine were packaged good. Very heavy, good solid welds, and fairly easy install. Paint is a gloss, come in black or red, and my red ones matched the AFE front hooks I have. When mounted, this version has 3 holes - one for recovery ropes, another for trailer chains, and slot for pull straps. Saw a prior post discussion about eBay versions, but didn’t seem like anyone had actually tried them. This Amazon version may be the same ones on eBay. They’re not the NYTOPS, but same general design, are bigger than i thought & work fine. These are rated 18000# per location.

Install: On Amazon site they have a decent install video. Pretty simple, but be prepared the frame bolts are on very tight from factory. I used 6pt deep 7/8” socket on 1/2 drive with cheater bar (off my floor jack handle) made it easy. On one side loosen all 3 bolts going through rear frame rail where receiver hitch attaches to frame. To keep receiver hitch and rear bed step alignment with frame, I always kept 1 bolt in during the install. Remove bolt farthest from rear bumper, put bolt through recovery point & hang bracket on that rear bolt position. Now remove 2 other bolts, swing bracket up, and reinstall bolts. My truck has manual folding bed step on drivers side & install still went fine - just put it down to make room. Helps to have 2nd person hold up recovery hooks when doing final torque keeping weight off them & allow for slightly changing position. Once all three bolts are snugged up, the seller provides a 4th supplemental bolt w/flat washer, lock washer & nut which goes through frame rail in an unused hole- helps add strength. I tightened all to 150#. I then did the passenger side.

Happy with the way these recovery hooks came out, not just for the price, but they work fine & are much better quality than I expected.

Nice write up on your findings and comparisons and the install.
By the multiple pictures, the prospective looks like they could double up as a rear gate bed step, nice job.

How is the finish? No chipped edges on the powder coating? (They look great in your pictures.)

They came packaged well in great condition. The paint is thick & glossy. I scratched the gloss a bit on the bottom of the items sliding them on my driveway. Darn things are heavy. 2nd one I slid it around on an old beach towel.

Based on the cost I'm assuming there hasn't been any 3rd party testing on these, right?

I think the rear recovery points compliment the AFE front points. IMG_7484.jpg

NYTOP is about to lose a big chunk of the market with those knock offs. I might have to pick up a pair

Yeah I went black as well, think the red would just draw to much attention on a blueprint truck. I may plastidip them to get a matte finish on them as well

Have these also. The paint was chipped a bit but got them for a good price so not a big deal.

Very interesting, thank for the share. Any shin banging issues? I smack my hitch mount more than I care to admit.

That’s what I was thinking after looking into them more. Also wouldn’t someone be able to blame the tow hook if they hit you?

Umm just ordered a set. But has anyone actually used them to recover or pull some serious weight?
