Am I insane for considering paying 23K for a 05 DC?

My problem is that there literally isn't another truck I'd rather have, period. Sometimes you get lucky and find a pair of shoes or pickup truck that fits ya (and dog) just right = Gen1.

One of co-workers said the hilux is coveted truck in his part of Mexico.

 

That’s not accurate. There’s several biomes in the island chain, as well as multiple biomes on each island. Some areas are desert climate like Kona, or Waianae while other parts of the island would be a rainforest such as Hilo or tantalus are.

Yeah once I went 4x4 I can't go back.. because SNOW. And living more rural now just amplifies that.
I could go Full @whodatschrome on it, but I don't think I have the patients or tools (skills?) for that big of a project.

Also, did OP get the truck or not? I looked at page 14 and here and haven't found anything, just some derailed train cabs on its side next to the railway.

 

I pay $15/month for YouTube premium which includes YouTube music. You can download videos and music to your phone without ads which definitely helps with the commute. I use to worry about using too much data on my plan but now that isn't an issue. I also login to Roku on my TVs using that same Gmail so no ads there either. I've had this for 4-5 years and it's worth it to me

 

If the seller throws in a music subscription pay the $23k for the truck.

maybe not 100 accurate, but every rig Ive seen in islands that spends 20 yrs outside is headed for or already at body rust thrus. Heck even some places around coastal San Diego can do you in after 20yrs; worse when cars arent regularly kept clean and waxed- saltair and dirt. Especially bcuz together w/rain, higher than avg humidity [like FL]. Agreed, every island has its dry side, but most peeps live nearer to coasts and lower elevations [salt air].

 

Lived most of my life between Monterey and SF, that salty fog will oxidize anything that's left outside. Used to live about 10 blocks from Ocean Beach in SF and even motorcycle parts in my garage would oxidize pretty fast if they weren't rubbed down with oil. I miss living by the ocean, but I do not miss everything rusting.

 

AGREED 100; I shoulda just replied an emphatic "NO!, no need to pay so much"..and been done w/it.

 

Honestly I feel that this price is WAY TO MUCH for the year of the truck. I would never consider it personally. I would keep looking, but that is just me. No matter how good of shape it is in. Insurance looks at one thing when something happens and needs to be totaled. Blue Book value and you will most likely lose out if that were to happen. No one ever wants or expects it to happen, but you know that Sh!t happens all the time. Best of luck in your search if you have not already purchased something.
