i highly doubt they will, will have to wait for the mid cycle to even get a chance.

Not happening until the mid-cycle refresh. Probably 2028.

I don’t really see a big difference between the two.

minor difference for +, just better camera detetcion. but 3.0 is more significant.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ9H_11I-8Y&t=1s

Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 3.0 offers enhanced features and improved performance compared to TSS 2.5.Key upgrades include more advanced camera and radar sensors for better detection, proactive driving assist features, enhanced intersection support with cyclist detection, and curve speed management within dynamic cruise control.

Just in time for all the 2.5 ‘ers to upgrade! 2030 model year seems solid.

Yes. They've gotta get the refresh right and not screw it up like the launch of the MY22+. This means taking the necessary time to do so. There are MANY things that are ready but they won't do them until the refresh.

I keep saying the almost simultaneous release of all trims in 2022 model year was a big mistake. A lot of the trim unique features particularly on the higher trims were not well conceived or executed.

A lot more measure twice cut once needed in the next Gen. If staggering trim and options release is needed it is better to get it right than fast

Wasn’t this thing “launch ready” in 2020 though? I swear I remember seeing what was supposed to be a Super Bowl ad for it that featured the TRD pro. Then COVID of course hit and threw things off track, and maybe it became a matter of rushing to actually get it into production? Weren’t mules with the V35A running around in 2018/2019?

My timing could be wrong though

Nope. It was suppose to be a 2021 model year, but was delayed due to COVID and all the delays caused by lockdowns, etc. Every new generation was pushed a year. And at this point in time, probably should've been pushed two years.

The V35A, although slightly different, had been in the Lexus LS 500 since the 2018 model year. The Type '21 for the body on frame vehicles was more than likely put in a 2020 body and run for a while, but obviously not enough. And there is ZERO chance that Toyota didn't have a failure or two during testing.

Well right, that’s what I meant, 21MY announced in 2020.

Yeah Lexus got the V35A first, but there were mules back in 2019. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a26027060/2021-toyota-tundra-pickup-future-spied/

Yeah very curious how many failures they encountered.

Are there certain areas they are specifically focusing on when you say they want to make sure they get it right?

    just engine/reliability?
    Interior quality(rattles?)
    Etc?

Meh, pretty underwhelming for 2026. Not enough reason to sell my '23 for one. My market read is that Toyota needs to move the mid-cycle refresh to 2-3yrs vs 5 or so. More new pick up customers are more likely to retain vehicles for less time and will be in the market more frequently. That's good news for Toyota but they have to deliver something more often.

Which goes against everything Toyota does.

Why do you think the big 3 are such shitshows? They never let anything soak long enough to work out the bugs. Its always the latest greatest headache because everything is just a perpetual beta test.

Maybe but the onus is on Toyota to out execute the Ford, GM and Ram. There are so many niggles to fix on the Tundra a mid cycle refresh is low hanging fruit and should present little reliability risk.

Not quite true. Ram stuck with previous Gen truck for 10 years and in year 8 in 26 for this gen. ZF 8 speed enters it's 14th year in 26. Then the Hemi. Ford 3.5 EB will soon gets its learners permit.

GM and Ford with its trannies and every maker with their turbo boosted lawn mower engines are shifty lots for sure.

Toyota gave up any advantage it had with using old tech. Now it has to raise the bar on its new tech

Exactly, especially when the tech is evolving. The hardware for the tech really isn't changing that rapidly so if they were smart, they'd try to design TSS so it could be more thoroughly updated via software and save the bigger updates when they have new sensor technology to deploy....OR, as Boulder says, offer refreshes more often, if only for the tech. At least some of us would upgrade for that.

Hopefully post Covid industry is returning to an era where unique exterior and interior colors are back. Toyota hung in with exterior colors. Ram used to have a catalog of 20+ colors in the last gen before going basic on this gen. They are adding back colors in 26.

Color really is a cheap way to give a returning vehicle some pizazz.

For me I am old and if the color ain't right no deal. I had several black trucks when I was younger because the deal was priority over the color. But now with everything costing a mint makers should be willing to make what people want

Rare color. I have seen only a few in the wild. Probably been couple years since I have seen one. It was either AG or Mesquite for me in 22. Mesquites were impossible to find
