Truck been running good at 85k miles but check engine light came on. It’s scheduled for an oil change today and I was guna have Toyota dealer put it on their check engine computer….but they wanted $189 for that!! Ridiculous!!

My pal said bring it to Auto Zone for their device…& sure enough the feller hooked it up and it read 1 ignition coil is the issue….but he didn’t say which coil it was. How do you know which one it is?

My pal is a mechanic and has a shop in his pole barn …he said it’s an easy repair….but he’s 45 mins away. I will get a price from Toyota dealer but I am sure they will bend me over….what is a reasonable price they should do this for? Rockauto has the part for $62….Auto Zone has it for $111.

Also have “Traction Control Off” flashing on dash screen that won’t turn off when I hold button down.

45 minutes to a shop you can trust isn’t very far at all.

I work at a Toyota dealership and Toyota makes it super easy with this code. The last number of the code is your cylinder number

Don't worry. They'll fix it for you. The light will be back on when you get the truck back.

    None....
$189 to diagnose a truck is ridiculous..
45 minutes to far to drive....

I guess $10 would be a fair out the door labor price then...If they come to you. $7.50 if you drive to them...

You do realize Trucks cost $60,000 to $90,000 these days

Truck sputtered about 3-4 times on way home from work yesterday traveling at about 50 mph….but check engine light was still not illuminated. This morning the check engine light was on when I fired her up…& it had 1 slight sputter on the way to work. My pal has availability in his shop late next week so hope it doesn’t get too bad before then.

if he’s doing 1 ignition coil…should I have him do all of them then?? Truck has 85k miles. Also spending money on brakes and tires …so this is all an unforeseen mid summer expense after 2 recent expensive vacations! Ugh

No, just replace the offending coil. Check the new code on the check engine light to confirm it’s still #8

I'd use Toyota, Denso, or NGK coil....
