Camping/Overlanding Thread

Many years ago I used to hunt deer on the West Virginia side in Hardy County. Now they have a freeway going through the area I hunted. My friend had a pop up camper. We pulled into a meadow to camp and hunt. It was good times. I should go down to do a look-see.

 

Well, we took the RV out for a test drive to the coast. It's only about 240 mi to my Dad's. Took about 30-34 gallons to get there (~7 gpm). On the return trip it took around 27-30 gallons and we actually drove faster (~9 gpm). Less wind coming back, and it rained only on the last leg of the trip vs almost half the trip heading to our destination.



RV ran flawlessly. The V10 is a beast even if it only puts out 305 HP. Must be the gearing.


Dad's area is all farmland which means the green energy companies have dotted it with hideous turbines.



The dogs didn't care for the trip down there but they were much more relaxed on the return trip. Dave only cared about the Whataburger. PJ drove it some and, with the exception of a low curb driving through one of the many small towns, she did really well. She especially enjoyed it when a big rig passed us .

I'm going to do some more odds n ends to it before our big trip to OH in a couple weeks, but I have all the confidence in the world in our choice of motorhome.

I see these crossing the IN/IL boarder on I80 all the time. They are sharp looking.

 

Saw this 4Runner on my way home yesterday, made me chuckle.

 

I used our 21gallon portable waste tank for the first time today.

Yep, I've run into that. Almost literally!!! Ha ha ha

 

Did four nights with dirt bikes over Canada day long week end.
Our site was spacious.

Camped this beautiful spot right on a stream in the Chattahoochee National Forest

 

I know, that's what made me say that. Der'e a widdle Jewwy can too.

 

Got to spend last weekend doing my favorite way to camp (when weather permits and no wife and child with me ) full view of the stars on a clear night

 

Spent lots of nights in the AZ deserts. Beautiful skies, lots of shooting stars, prettiest sunrises.

 

I did that once ... ♬ And a fat ass J of some bubonic chronic that made me choke, shit, this ain’t no joke I had to back up off it and sit my ass down. ♪

That kinda depends on where ya live.
We dont get four seasons in South Texas.
It's Hot as Hell,then it cools down for awhile,then it goes right back to Hot as Hell.
So yeah more like two seasons.

 

Finished a little stint in the NM Mountains. The weather cut our trip short but it was good nonetheless.

 

Was supposed to head out last weekend to Blue Ridge Reservoir but having issues with my slide out...

Looks like Happy Jack area, maybe Forrest Lakes?

 

Nice little setup, how do you like the Basecamp and how does it do on the rougher roads?

 

Love it! Not going to be a good as a dedicated offroad trailer or teardrop but I think it's the next best thing. I only had one incline that damaged my front passenger stabilizer and steps but I was able to mostly fix it.

A few days ago, I got a last minute invite to a glamp site in Irwin ID. My friend accidentally booked it on the wrong dates and couldn't change it without losing the entire rental fee. After quickly grabbing my gear, I went across the state and spend 3 days/2 nights next to the Snake River. It was fun but the weather up there sure likes to change quickly from hot and sunny to cold and rainy then back within minutes.

 

Our Overland Bound Inland Adventure Group had a stellar weekend in Montana going to Blue Lake and the edge of Glacier NP. @Cassidy1866 joined as well and we had 2 Tundras among the 11 rigs coursing through the mountains. Pretty epic trip, look for the rigs in the drone shots.
