Lol no kidding, after hitting the gym early this morning I'm happily parked at my desk and here I will stay....til 5.

Then it's time to hang pictures, a pull up bar, curtain rods, cut return air vents into upstairs bedroom doors, install new storm door, install doggy dog into it, receptacle covers on garage door opener j boxes, mow, spray weeds, fert, changes wife's car oil. I only have one speed.

Thanks! Just made it out of cattle panel and cedar. Wanted something that wouldn't block my view too much.

I have to do railings for our tent deck soon, and I just showed the wife. You might be are inspiration

What's the consensus on Cedar vs PT. I know PT is cheap and splintery. But would the Cedar railing system look dumb with a PT deck? Or you just stain it all and who cares?

I pulled some weeds today, f'n sandburs mostly. If I could finally get rid of them it would be the biggest improvement in the history of ever

It might depend on the product, but I'm using TWP sealer/stain, https://www.twpstain.com/ an oil sealant that penetrates the wood. My deck is PT, posts and rails cedar. With the product I used, in color "Cedartone," they came out pretty close to the same color. Now that the oil has soaked into the PT, it's considerably lighter in color than the picture shows. I have a wrap-around porch, so the project is about 1/3 done overall. I'll post another picture tomorrow, after it's cured for 48 hours. You'll be able to better judge the colors on cedar vs pressure treated pine. And BTW, the PT I put down is not at all splintery.

Okay that's good to hear. I have a PT deck right now and its doing good, and so far not splintery either. I keep reading about cedar rails and its making me think I need to do that for those sections.

    Thanks!

Did a similar style fence and deck railing to the one above. Lotta work. Turned out nice though. Ended up selling the house.

I just watched an episode of Perkins Builder Brothers where they used this type of panel for deck rail. They went off on a tangent of the differences between cattle, goat, sheep, pig panel. Never seen it before that episode and now your hand rail. Looks really nice! Safe and great visibility. I don't have a deck anymore but will keep this one in mind for future projects.

I designed and built this railing for the Municipal Golf Course where I used to live. All galv fence pipe and 6x6 posts drilled out on a press.
Not my money so had the freedom to SPEND. Always loved how it looked, and how it didn't block the view.
It was a rickety old deck, I was only tasked with doing the decking and railing. (Yoga Time!)

Got a couple unexpected showers this morning, so the deck is a bit wet.
    20250722_082329.jpg 20250722_100113.jpg

Here it's dried somewhat, and there's a closeview of the deck, post and rail. The bottom rails and post are rough sawn cedar, 4x4 post, 2x4 bottom rails. The top rail is smooth cedar deck board, 6x5/4. You can see that outside the cattle panel, I've not yet stained, since the deck at this point is about 5 feet above the ground and I need tp get my ladder to do that outside part. But you can see that the cedar and the pressure treated pine all came out about the same color. In the bottom picture, there's a shadow line just inside the nearest post. I'm standing under a covered portion of the deck.

    Concrete poured today:yes:
Kids and wife weren't home, so I had to carve the initials of all of us into it.

Wife and I agreed to no more kids. And if it were to happen, I'd find a way to make it work. That's pretty much been my theme in life since I've had kids anyway haha

Thanks. The overhang is 20x50 with the main shop being 30x50...so not far from it.

Not in the slab. There will be in the additional drive we pour from our existing driveway to the shop front tho.
Don't really use them for this application in the south

Having lived out west my whole life I didn't realize expansion joints are a regional thing.

Been leveling out some concrete lately and decided to find root cause. Was the compaction crap? Drain issues?

Think I found the problem. Now I get to dig up all my underground drains.

The drains don’t appear to be very deep, and don’t the drain pipes usually have some pea gravel around them? What is the frost line depth in your area?
