Honestly, with the press kit and my big impact, the uppers went pretty smooth for me with the spindles off the truck.

I couldn't get the upper to pop off. I dented my UCA beating it.

I rented (deposit, which you get back, so it's free?) from O'Rielly's but I wasn't impressed. Bought a front end service kit from OTC at Zoro.com.

Buggered up an outer tie rod's threads with the kit but ended up replacing outer tie rods anyway. I had used the pulled suggested in a video but another in the kit did the job without damage. Lesson learned for 90K miles from now.

Filled er up this weekend. I know it's not much, but the last time I filled up was in May or so, right after getting back from T2S. Weren't y'all talking about tank size earlier? This turned out to be 11.33 mpg on this tank, not accounting for the 33s.

Yup, I filled up yesterday too. Man, I miss all those road trips up to Helen GA in May/June timeframe. This last tank was 100% city driving, kid-caddying.

    Passenger side is done.
The one I bought and destroyed yesterday was the same one they rented out. To get the other side finished I ordered a cheapish/better than parts store front end service kit and a good set of pickle forks. If this was something that I had to deal with more than every 100K miles, I'd look into getting the proper high end stuff. Maybe when it comes time to swap out my shocks and springs.

My biggest problem is that I'm already having to build out a second full tool box setup because I don't have any room for all my motorcycle suspension tools and random stuff that only gets used every few years.

Here's the finished job from yesterday. I was gonna add grease to the tie rod fitting, but couldn't find my grease gun until I had put everything away. Deal with it when I do the other side. It's been raining today and that's my excuse for not working on it today, not the fact that my back is killing me and I'm feeling my age.

Minor upgrade but needed. Wasn’t getting any codes, but noticed there was zero resistance to removing the cap when fueling. The new cap feels good…kinda like it’s spring loaded or something. My concern was fuel evaporating in this scorching heat. I did Order from Scamazon…. The seller was Toyota Parts of North Miami. I just placed another order with them for 2 x 4litre cans of ATF -WS fluid. My dealership said that the p/n had been discontinued. IMG_2305.jpg

I need to replace mine. I keep getting a minor evap system leak code that I suspect is from the gas cap. I asked the last time I was at the dealership if they had it and the part number came right up, but they didn't have it in stock.

Note that 2003-2004 trucks are part of the fuel filler neck TSB. If "what the fuck are you talking about, shifty`?" is the first thing that went through your head, go search the first page of the megathread for 'FILLER'.

    Upshot,

Did you re-use the LBJ bolts or replace with new?

Advice on this site is to buy new bolts.

I did mine lying on my back, in the yard. I would not do this job again without power tools.

    20241117_150501.jpg

    20241117_151406.jpg

Ignore the one bolt too far out....I had torqued to spec but was still a bit out. I asked on here but consensus was it was a bit rusty up in there. I got it all the way in with a breaker bar.

Just ordered one from a dealership on Amazon. I checked Ourisman first, but the shipping was more than the discount.

I'll check closer after I replace the fuel cap if I keep getting the code. Mine needs replacing anyway because the tether broke ages ago and the cap itself is feeling pretty tired. Guessing it's the stock 22 year old fuel cap. And I did look and my vin is part of the TSB.

Smoke test should (hopefully quickly) reveal if the neck is cracked, although it didn't seem to work great for at least one person, it has worked for others. There are modified caps/plugs to pop onto the tank that will seal it for you to pipe smoke in.

Wife and I do odd jobs yes, but this is for a friend. If it wasn't for us, he couldn't afford to get it done. He intends to sell this once we get it cleaned out and the rest of the trees and brush cut down and removed.

    Why?

When swapping the cap also checked for corrosion on the mating surface and decided to plug the neck and smooth it out.
