Has anybody heard anything about louvered hoods, vent mods or anything pertaining to bringing down engine bay temps on the Gen 3 platform? It’s definitely too hot under there. Worried about cooking turbo oil especially, but as a general rule you should be able to touch airbox plumbing without burn risk. I see this being a problem for the long term owners.

Agreed - it's heat soaked often....... I think there was an attempt at a vented hood by someone but don't think it launched.

I did this on my old 80 series LC prepping for the TRD blower.... it reduces cut oil temps by almost 20 degrees in TX heat per the scanguage.

the vents on the side are Rover side vents....

There was a thread about this several months ago this may have been the hood that was talked about. I don’t think anyone here pulled the trigger on it, maybe they did:notsure:

For starters, modern turbo cars should all have secondary water pumps that cool the turbo CHRAs after shut down.

I believe I found the one for the Gen 3 a while back.

oil coking was a thing for oil cooled turbos only, hence turbo timers were a thing in the 90s.

the heat evacuation is solely for underhood temps only and would not really affect oil temps, as those are regulated by the cooling system which is positive pressure when rolling.

Good deal. I had read that they had multiple cooling veins, but I wasn’t aware they were that efficient. Was going to install some BOV’s and found out right away that you can’t do it after a short drive. That’s what got me thinking about engine bay temps and the oil obvious cook off problem.

Yup. You can do the turbo smart recirculating valves, but nothing vent to atmosphere.
Messes with metered air and fueling.

Seibon makes a carbon fiber vented hood. Goes for about $1800. Not sure how effective it is.

Magnuson has a aftermarket radiator and air intercooler intake. Also adding a trans cooler will help.

    Too many mods to come

Their vented hoods work great. We run these on the gen2.5

I have several various mods on my 2ZZ Corolla to lower engine and under hood temps.
Redline Water Wetter I’ve added to coolant, also ran this in one of my bikes years ago. Fan definitely kicked on less in high ambient temperatures.

On my old Audi's ( mostly C5 Rs6's - twin turbo'ed) we'd run Redline plus a snows kit......and/or E40 / 80 and larger injectors etc.... . haven't seen anyone doing much on the Tundra at that level yet - and I'm not for pioneering while still have 55k miles left on CPO..... !!

I've been on E30-E40 for years now...these trucks have a very robust fuel system that can handle the extra 6psi and E40 mix.

The LPFP will probably be the limit prior to maxing the DI and PI injectors and HPFP.

with 12 injectors I imagine you have all the fuel overhead you need.

I haven't heard someone mention a snow performance WMI kit in a long time... We used to stock (and sell) lots of Boost Juice years ago before E85 became popular.

Also kind of hits me to hear C5s referred to as "old", I still vividly remember the days of pulling B5/C5 ECUs to solder pins to them

haha - yep, a bit old school.... and likewise, I recall sending my ECu's out to Joe Hoppen to get made "fun".... I wasn't brave enough to solder... and sorry to hear about your 25'..... hope it's a quick fix / new long block....

Eddie - I figured you had a bit of extra pep going and were running something given the tune etc.... I'll ping you for ideas once I get the suspension mods finally sorted and feel the need for more power...

I ran the torqbyte system in my GTI (got bought by Snow) fully programmable fuel maps, rpm and boost maps, etc.

Eventually got brave and ran some nitro mix in the tank with the methanol.
Was a good time had by all.
Ultimately upgraded my whole DI system and sold it.
Frankly, I think I still have most of the components.

It's always nice (and a bit humorous) to realize the "small world" nature of the auto industry... I need to get back to my VW roots, but maybe after some more garage space exists

The new MQB cars are absolutely nuts with the power output they are achieving.
My Gen 1 TSI seemed like a dinosaur compared to them.

At one point in time the shop I worked for was doing all the east coast HPA installs, so I’d agree, one is on my list as well

Wife has a 2014 Touareg. It’s got the VR6….she will not let me cut the muffler and resonator off it. Makes me sad.

Would so trade the Tundra for one if it wasn't for a work wagon.

    Lots of stuff!
A little off topic: I did HPA stuff on the Beetle TDI. Their stuff was nice and the brakes were amazing. Now we are full of EV’s so no 600 hp VR6 for me :( Their headquarters is close to me so having them work on the car was easy.
