at this point I’m kind of proud of the cobbled together bullshit that I’m pulling off so I might just keep going that direction

Yes, but like the rest of you my mechanism has the side to side play so I still have movement, just not as much. I was going to see about fitting a washer behind the 10mm bolt, but I needed to get the kids to bed. The bolt is tight and I didn’t want to force it any further. I’ll mess with that later.

Is your tailgate kind tight in the last few inches to close? I got one of those from somewhere else and man I have to slam the tailgate to get it close the last bit otherwise it sticks out about an inch or two

Nope, so far it's smooth as silk.

Yeah @Nimitz_ you may want to hit up any of the people who replaced theirs with the cutting board thingy, or full-bed HDPE covering. I think @daveeasa did, and maybe @oscardog86 too?

I haven’t tried that product but I’ve bought the door check repair from that seller. I’ve been pleased with them so far and he is local-ish to me so I support his shop when I can.

I made my tailgate cover out of some sorta plastic foam. probably half the weight of a solid hdpe cover.

its not perfect, but its better on the knees than the ribbed plastic cover.

When I eventually get a sheet of plexiglass for my camper shell window, I'm going to get some textured acrylic and DIY a tailgate panel

Rough section of highway in Oklahoma. Cruise set, truck starts hesitating and bucking. I turn the cruise off, and check the gas gauge. Showing just barely above empty, thinking I may just need to get gas. The truck is running fine with the cruise off. I set the cruise again. Gas gauge now shows just above a quarter tank. Think maybe my fuel pump is having issues.

Coasted to up an exit ramp, got it restarted and made it to the top. Gauge shows empty, truck dies again. I get out, give the bottom of the gas tank several good wacks and restart it. Gauge coming back up.

But oddly when the gauge finally makes it down to below empty, then it acts like it’s out of fuel.

I'd check your wiring/above tank for rodent activity. Both the pump power and the gauge are linked to the same (4-pin?) harness, if I remember the earlier models correctly. Something that impacts that wire sheath/bundle or the connector is about the only thing I reckon would cause both the pump and the gauge to potentially go limp at the same time. Whatever it is, it would be impacting two circuits, the resistor line for the gauge, and the power line to the pump.

It doesn’t suddenly die. The gauge slowly makes its way down to below E, then it acts like it’s out of gas. There’s still a quarter tank of gas actually in the truck. I bang on the tank and the truck starts back up, the gauge slowly starts rising again and it runs fine.

Speaking of dying fuel pumps. This shell station is the slowest ever. When someone else pulls up to get gas, it slows further.

On certain stretches of uneasy roads or driving into headwinds, my gauge will suddenly shoot down to way below empty and bounce around a bit before eventually getting back to normal, but never had it cause the truck to shut off.
