I've seen so many different answers about the engine replacement recall. Long block, short block, complete engine etc etc. my 22 goes into the shop Friday for engine replacement and I'd like to know what exactly will be included. Apparently our dealer has one guy doing all of these warranty engine replacements and he has it down to one day.

If you are in the recall group you will get a complete engine (assembled block, heads, etc).

If you are not in the recall group you will get a short block (block, pistons, rods, crank) and they reuse the heads and turbos unless a specific issue is found.

Source: I'm in the latter of those two groups and that is how it has been explained to me as far as what they are replacing

Initially I was led to believe that It was going to be anything that oil touched so turbos, oil coolers.. all that kind of stuff

If you are getting the recall done, you will get an entire new engine WITH new turbos. They even come with oil in them. Toyota made it as easy as possible with this recall.

This guy does a good job of explaining everything involved in the engine replacements. it's worth watching, IMO

Edit: Apparently you need to watch it on YouTube. Sorry

Engine blown at 1200 miles and getting a short block !?!
Did you put up a stink with Toyota Corporate to try to get a buy back or at least a crate engine?
If I was in your shoes, I would fight for a new vehicle replacement seeing that it had so few miles on it.

Been fighting it for weeks and gotten no where so far… although the dealer said it’ll be a whole motor but ordered in pieces, but I believe nothing they say unless it’s in writing.

I was in the recall group but I only got the short block changed. Everything else was reused. I feel like I got short changed now.

If they only did a short block your recall motor is still open. If your motor failed BEFORE the recall was opened, then yes you got a short block, but you will get an engine assembly when your truck goes in for the recall
