I refuse to stop in Memphis ever again. We made the mistake of driving thru town and stopping on the East side somewhere on our move from NM. Went to take the dog out for a walk and someone's car had been broken into. Luckily they didn't try my van or the U-Haul trailer I was towing. My daughter and son-in-law will be making that same trip next month and they plan on stopping in Arkansas and then drive straight to our house the next day.

We are going to Colorado in a few weeks and I want to try to hit at least one trail. I'll be the only off-road vehicle, so I was looking for a fun trail I could do with the kids with little risk of getting stuck. We'll be in Crested Butte and I saw the Gunsight Pass Trail which is about 2ish miles NW of downtown Crested Butte. This is a long shot, but anybody done that trail? Or done any trails around there you could recommend?

Hey! I didn't say it was trail approved
Prob wouldn't want to do this in Texas either, where interiors get molten like the surface of the sun :bananadead:
I'll probably be ok with no weeping sap in south Canadia.

This time of year, just snag a sprig of mint off the roadside and let it dry on the dash..

Man that Malibu wagon is probably worth a mint today. You'd be hard pressed to find one in decent shape around here for less than $4k-6k these days...

That's the thing about cities, especially ones that have a fair amount of out-of-towners and tourists who aren't from the city.

I'm not blaming anyone here, victim-shaming, or whatever you may call it. I've just been stuck in a densely-populated urban area, because work moved me here with a salary I couldn't refuse, and I bought a house in a shady area that's since exploded and now the house is going to be a big contributor to my retirement comfort, and in that 20+ years, I've seen some shit. The main problem I've seen, over and over, and over again, is this:
    • As population density increases, the chances for opportunistic crime climb exponentially; it's not necesarily that the area is "sketchy" or "bad", there's just so many damn people that the fraction of a percent of bad people nearby (or those who wouldn't otherwise be tempted) have more targets.
    • People (visitors, or new to town) naively leave shit of value in open view: Laptop bags, purses, backpacks, phones, etc., honestly it could be "anything a crackhead things they could get a dollar by hawking it", even loose change in the center console, or a pack of empty cigarettes on your floorboard, if a crackie knows that's $5 he can avoid spending and redirect it towards his next hit, guess whose window's getting smashed?
    • Put the two together, and you have crime; 90% or better that crime wouldn't happen if there wasn't a clear opportunity to be had by a criminal, they almost always pick the "lowest hanging fruit". Smash and grab is wildly popular since the recession that hit while Bush Jr was in office.
The best way to protect yourself in any city is to know your surroundings, never keep anything of value within reach/sight, and don't walk around in areas that are poorly lit, poorly attended (safety in numbers), or alone/vulnerable.
