Hello,New to the forum, first post. I have always had problems with my locking system, it would set off the alarm at times without rhyme or reason.Dealer not helpful because every time I take it they could not reproduce the problem. Would like to take it on a long trip and want to be able to lock the vehicle without the alarm going off. Any thoughts?

What system does it have? Can you post a picture of the remote you are using?

Get rid of the alarm system. The thing's 24 years old. It's done.

If it's an aftermarket system, I fully agree with this.

@wracinti will know it's aftermarket by looking for any nonstandard LEDs surface-mounted to the dash, and/or looking up under the driver's side of the dash for clearly T-tapped wires, black boxes that are zip-tied up in there, etc. Or potentially by the remote being non-Toyota as Nick pointed out. Although having a Toyota remote specifically doesn't mean there's not remnants of an aftermarket alarm, and some dealer-installed units used a fatter variation of the OEM remote, a non-Toyota remote would absolutely indicate it's not OEM keyless/TVIP.
