    Hi all

so I’ve been off the forum for awhile , I sold my tundra sadly awhile back and have been through a bit of a merry go round of trucks since BUT I finally landed on a keeper. I found a 92 c1500 stepside factory 5 speed 350 truck up in Portland oregon1000006950.jpg
Wasn’t in bad shape but had been sitting for just about 20 years. Motor still ran transmission still worked and was in relatively good shape. So I flew up there and drove it home. 129k miles original. On the way home I had some surprises (which sitting for 20 years really didn’t come as a surprise) but I made it home intact . Started tearing her down and what I though was a blown head gasket turned terminal , two scored cylinders
    1000006937.jpg
so I had the motor rebuilt and at the same time replaced almost everything under the hood lol new water pump tstat radiator fan belt power steering pump clutch slave cylinder motor mounts spark plugs /wires , I’m sure I’m forgetting something. So then it was on to the interior I completely removed it and scrubbed and extracted it , came out super nice

Then I had to deal with the paint. Paint is original mostly but was super cloudy so I did a 2 part paint correction and it came out better than I could’ve anticipated. Correted on left untouched on right sideIMG_2033.jpg IMG_2035.jpg
Also installed a new grille and new lights you can really tell the difference between left and right on the hood in this pic IMG_2036 Copy.jpg

    Final paint correction resultsIMG_2156.jpg
when I got the truck I never really cared for the torque thrusts , the truck came with a 2/4 drop but they made it look factory height imo so I decided to back to stock. I also removed the side molding as they were well past their prime. IMG_2153.jpg IMG_2145.jpg IMG_2146.jpg

The steelies were the factory option for this truck per the rpo codes so I decided on those and some 275/60r15 for the old school look IMG_2184.jpg IMG_2185.jpg
And that pretty much brings you guys up current on my stepside . I still have a lot of plans for it but for now it’s just drive and enjoy. This is my daily driver and I’m having a blast with it IMG_2378.jpg IMG_2234.jpg

Wow! That turned out great! I always like me some GMT400 :)

I wasn’t sure about the steelies while reading through but they look much better that the Torque Thrusts. Reminds me of the square body steelies with the beauty ring - one of which was ALWAYS missing. Looks great!

Looks great! I recently stumbled upon a pic of my old 1995 short wide that was also 5 speed.

The wheels were a periodic choice obviously

Yea I lucked out and found a set of NOS still factory wrapped beauty rings for 100 bucks . The steelies make the drop look lower than it did with a torque thrusts

I always loved the gmt400 . I wasn’t old enough to buy a new one, when I bought my first new truck it was a 2002 rcsb with a 4.8 Ls but it just wasn’t the same as the gmt400. I had a 93 Yukon 2door back in 2012 that I fixed up but it was always a project. I just really wanted a clean gmt400 and for me , I prefer the tbi versions (they catch a lot of grief for being “underpowered” but tbh mine is peppy and torquey and I like it. The tbi is much more reliable than the Vortec spider injection. I do have an uncorked no cat exhaust which I think is a MUST on these trucks that helps a lot.
