After finishing drain/fill and checking level, i ended up putting in about 300grams of fluid less than what i drained. Is this normal or ok? First time doing this just wanna be sure i get it right

Did you perform the level check at the temperature range specific to your transmission model number? IIRC there are 2 variants, one at a higher temperature which would make the fluid expand more and read higher if is not the right transmission model.

If this is your first d&f it’s not uncommon to refill a slightly different amount

:eek2: It’s not perfectly filled from the factory

It's better to be over than under, pan to valve body can accommodate up to a quart overfill. But most don't and just get it from a stream to a trickle. If we convert to USA you're saying 10 oz less.

I would add the 1/2 quart bring it up to 100deg F and check.
2007 has the check at 115 deg.
Are you pinning the trans thermostat? Level ground?

I plan on taking on this endeavor. My problem is that I have the RCI transmission skid plate and CAT guards. To properly do this, I would need to remove those. Is it safe or sound to just drain and refill with the exact amount that drained out, and not perform the level check?

My 19 was slightly over filled from factory, I'm guessing it was do the to removal of the cooler, they probably filled it with the same amount of fluid that was required with the cooler.

Whatever this forum told me to do
the level check is too easy NOT to do.

    just do it.

to assuage any fears....I just let the truck warm for a couple minutes and do the level check.

no need to get hyper religious over a few degrees.

I generally overfill by a quart. then let it drain out during the level check.

    once it trickles....you are done.

    this assures a proper level.

Yes it's fine, but the level check is so dang easy if you have an OBD tool that it doesn't make sense to do it that way, it's actually more work trying to measure it. I did it that way the first time and then realized how easy it was to do the check procedure that I never did the measure method again.

I would 100% do the level check. It's your transmission.

Also, probably doesn't hurt to take the skids off every once in awhile to make sure they're not fused to the truck the one time you really do need to get them off.

Just look up The Car Care Nut on youtube. He has a great video and shows you how to get the truck to let you know the temp is correct without a scanner.
