I got a small set recently that I really like. They were on clearance at NAPA. I've wanted a set for years but they are always so expensive that I held off.

 

I've done it a handful of times. I typically soak it with non diluted simple green then get as much off with the pressure washer. Rubberized undercoatings suck. Get bed liner in a can or a satin black paint for best results.

 

Whatever rubberized undercoating they used is awesome. I have gotten a single bit of rust underneath the wheel wells as a result in all the harsh salt laden winters I’ve driven through. Although I do religiously wash my undercarriage when it gets above freezing.

Any orher pickup I run into around here from the early 2000s usually has rusted out panels around the wheel wells.

 

Yup. Haven't seen this video in his channel yet, but the ratchet failures I was referencing get tested at the 12m04 mark. I make a point of never using ratchet wrenches to break fasteners free, it's served me (and my wallet) well.

Those Olsa look like a pretty good bang vs. buck ultra-budget buy, I'd trust just about anything made in Taiwan, like the Tekton. I use plenty of Tekton tools. I currently have a mix of Mountain and Gearwrench ratcheting wrenches.

Guy has a really awesome channel, one of my faves.

 

On your frame or the wheel wells? Frame you can use just about anything IMO. The wheel wells with a rubberized undercoating always seem to chip and break apart. But it could be my use case because I frequently do highway speeds on gravel roads lol.

 

Wheel wheels but yeah, I’m surprised it was able to stay intact although off-roading to me has just been dirt roads.

Since I’m not in a rush to get any I think I’ll keep my eye out for a little bit for some quality second hand stuff, if I get impatient I can always buy new, they seem to go on sale pretty often.

 

I was impressed with the American made SKs and the German designed, Czech made Wera wrenches. I may buy the Wera ones if I need to use them regularly for any reason.

 

I got the gearwrench sets from tractor supply with an xmas giftcard. I havent broken any of em yet.

 

Got the flex heads from HF. Figure they're mostly for speed not torque but have seen PF rate HF wrenches up with SO. And can 1790 reviews wth high ratings be wrong from folks talking about rebuilding their vehicles with them? Only thing still wanting instead is reversible ... so dont get stuck . Maybe a Husky pair sometime?

 

I’ve got Gearwrench flex heads for 1/2 off at Christmas time from Sears several years back. Broke a couple of them and haven’t used them since for anything rusted.

 

Did they break at the flex, or in the ratchet mechanism?

Just snapped a pic of rubberized undercoat holding up about 25 years on an FJ40 wheel well (with some dirt on top but defintely didn't rust out). Bedcoating is a interesting idea.

 

And couldn't resist painting up the shock mounts and LCAs when swapping in the new struts on the bestgen but didnt do the wheelwells. If cared would probably just power wash, hit with wax/grease remover, and use flat black rattle can since already has a flex coat although guess it could be thicker and more evenly applied? Fj40 was just metal.

 

I used some really old wormy chestnut boards to build a king size headboard, and used what was left over to build a frame for one of the extra large record store posters I rescued back in the 1900's.

 

I have hazet xl wrenches, my favorite for combination wrenches (and no extender needed). Waaaaay better than wera. Stahwille, heyco and gedore are also good.

Longer than snap ons xl wrenches and significantly cheaper too. Just wish they made a 25 & 26mm, as I had to fill those in using HF wrenches.

Have seen 'zon.de but never thought of ordering from there. How's the shipping handled?

 

This right here is why I prefer satin paint. That looks amazing. The wheel wells turn brown no matter what you use. I like the way bedliner and paint look more than the rubberized stuff.

 

Sometimes through 'zon, sometimes dhl.


I just use whichever site (com or de) is cheaper at the time of order.

 

Gearwrench is great for home tools.

I’m alive. Really appreciate the concern. Unfortunately lost two guys from our shift that day (from two other departments) due to that asshole that shot them. My medic and I transported Tysdale and he is doing so so. Has had a few surgeries but still has a long ways to go. Funerals are at the end of this week and not looking forward to them and it’s already been a miserable week after that event.
