honestly my local dealer sucks too. the only time I had a promo oil change there they torqued the shit out of the drain plug. they sell with "MVSP" pricing which is MSRP plus their own custom markup. And when I had a recall fix done there they messed it up and didn't install it properly and I had to go back as it was throwing MILs

I have bought 16 new cars. Just about every American, Japanese, and Korean brand.

    Lots of iffy dealership experiences.

The one Lexus my wife had they had an issue they never fixed I consistently got the "We are Lexus we don't have problems" tagline from both the company and the dealer. My local Toyota dealer is more discreet but has the same philosophy. They are a lazy dealer not used to solving problems or doing big work. I have struggled to get warranty, recall and TSB work performed by them.

The local GM and Ram shops I previously used have their own sleazy business issues but they are used to taking in a vehicle and working on it all day

Last time my Ram went in for oil change they did 8 recalls and TSBs without me asking . Had parts on the rack ready to go. I did nothing. My Toyota dealer makes me do all the work. Make an appointment. Take truck in to them be told we will order parts. Have to call back 5 times checking on pasts. "Sorry we used them on another guys truck." I have no other dealer within 50 minutes but I will likely never buy another Toyota due to the dealer experience.

My truck sat for 10 days. They just started taking it apart this Mon. They said main bearing failure. Parts have been ordered and gave me an ETA of a week so next Tuesday. Im getting a short block until Toyota moves the recall.

This is honestly why i invested in tools and knowledge on how to do things myself. But if im getting a free 20k engine then i guess im at their mercy.

Wait, they aren’t replacing it with an entire new engine? Just the short block? If it’s on the recall list why aren’t they giving you a new engine ?

He must not be on the recall list. Could be that he's a later built 2023 (after the recall), or has a hybrid.

Pretty sure he's non-Hybrid, but just outside recall window.

*edit* Beat me to it. :hattip:

Oh, that makes me feel better. My current truck is in the shop and has been there for 10 days, so far dealer reports they haven’t received a new engine to replace mines. I’m driving a loaner. I hear that average time to replace the engine is 3 days, but what about for the dealer to receive the engine crate? They better not charge me for over mileage use for the loaner. I’m driving it just like I would my truck.

I went way over the “allotted” miles on my loaner during my recall. I mentioned it while picking up my truck and they said it was no problem. Didn’t get charged. Seemed stupid to only allow 75 miles per day.

One time I had a loaner for 6 weeks and retuned it with 9000 miles. The dealer was not amused. I had no remorse. I told him maybe they should have fixed mine faster

Yeah I’m sure I’m gonna pass that limit. Dealer alone is 303 miles away from me. Truck broke down while I was on vacation

 As long as they don’t try to pull some shenanigans and try to charge me. The contract didn’t specifically mention about accruing milage

This is the worst case scenario that I have so far avoided on several drives to FL. I can only imagine the multiple hassles, beginning with how do I get us and all our gear to the destination... or back home?

That's all described in the fine print in the purchasing contract. (you're on your own)

Yeah, tell me about it. I towed an RV through the Virginia mountains on our vacation. Luckily I wasn’t towing it when it broke down, just came off the swerving hills of Shenandoah and was 5 minutes away from the RV resort when it died. Got a friend to drive me and my family to the resort, 2 days without a car there. Toyota dealer was nice enough to send a driver to pick me up (45 min drive). They gave me a Tacoma, it has a hitch receiver and 7 pin connector but of course no brake controller, so had to drive 50 mins away to advance auto parts store to buy the echo wireless Bluetooth controller the day of checking out of the resort. Luckily they had one left in stock. It was a trip to remember for sure.

Another day, and somehow another update!

I reached out through my FB/IG, and through a friend of a friend of a friend, was able to (perhaps) put a little more pressure on a timely resolution. In the event that anyone involved in those conversations reads this, your willingness to help and expediency in making notifications exceeds any verbal thank you that I can give.

After another half a dozen phone calls I finally got someone at my dealer on the phone and was told that "one or some of the parts" are backordered; I asked if that meant backordered with or without an expected restock date, and I was told that they would know more when it's back in stock. So, zero help or enlightenment from that conversation.

I can assume that between having the case open with corporate, my constant calling, etc, someone made a call somewhere that prompted the dealer to pull the truck in (Toyota app notification for windows down and hood up), so perhaps they've decided to start the tear down. Although, the battery is still connected and after about an hour the windows were closed but hood has been left open.

Further updates will come as they are made available to me.

edit: tomorrow will mark 10 days without my truck, which is the same amount of time I had my truck...

    Same here.

I've made 3 cross country trips from Colorado to the east coast, and back, in my '23 Tundra (build date 6/23, so not included in the recall)

The ever present thought that my engine might blow at any minute, caused me more anxiety than I care to admit. I've always maintained, "if she blows, she blows, I'll deal with it then". But it's hard for me to stay indifferent when my wife and 2 dogs are in the truck and we're thousands of miles from home.

I have a turning point on buying a newer vehicle. When I start to have the slightest doubt about a vehicle making to 362 mile trip when my wife visits family, it's gone.
