And they even have a 6"x6" version that would give more access... The frame of the 6"x6" one is 8"x8" so I need to see if there is that much of a flat area on my TRD skid. Install of any of these should be fairly easy, cut the opening with a cutoff wheel or jigsaw, then pop rivet this cover in place. The hard part will be to determine the best location.

there is no way the valve leaves that much in the pan. Don’t trust this guy as far as I could throw him.

Yeah, there might be some vehicle/Fumoto combination where this happens if the neck of the Fumoto inserts a bit too far past the oil pan. But I bet any like that are outliers.

i've been thinking about the fumoto recently, and was also thinking if its possible to add a small amount of air pressure from the oil fill cap to help flush/drain the oil out. is this a terrible idea?
was thinking if I have a hose on the drain side maybe that's a good way to help cycle more out.

I don't think pressure would get more out, just make it come out faster at first. And too much pressure would be bad. But maybe it would just vent out the PCV valve anyway?

    Hey raylo,
Did you happen to figure out if this is feasible or not?

Not yet, been too busy. But it looks like it should work. The trick would be to figure out the exact best place to make the cutout.

Gotcha. Oil change today and I'm starting to get tired of wrestling with the TRD skid every time.

Me, too. It's like a baby elephant on your chest. And if I didn't need the extra room to lower and lift it I might be able to do the changes without ramps.

I put the standard 103 in the wife’s gx550 and have one for the tundra, only have 500 miles on the truck so will do a break in oil change by 1k and install it. The skid plate on her overall is easy to take on / off. If I can’t access the oil filter with the tire removed on the tundra and I have to drop this trd skid every time I’m cutting an access hole and using the plate in the link above for an access panel.

getting to old and lazy to remove a heavy ass skid plate every oil change….

yeah i was fairly disappointed to see that. my tacoma has the plate with the built in access hatch. why get rid of it? i'm guessing just forcing dealer maintenance.

i definitely plan on putting one in, and keeping the tubing attached and tucked under the skid.

The F-133 has no nipple. No means to attach a drain hose.
The F-133S (short?) has a super short nipple. Looks like barely enough for a hose to hang onto.
The F-133N has a long nipple. Long nipple good for hose retention.
(Long nipples just good in general.) :D
The F-103SX has a swivel. The outlet can be rotated. It looks to have the super short nipple of the F-133S. Not really sure the swivel feature is needed on our trucks as the outlet will work wherever the non-swivel versions will put it. Hopefully that makes sense.

I have the F-133N and it works great.
Does not stick down too far. Plenty of clearance. Fits under TRD skid with room to spare.
    Would recommend.

thank you. long nipple sounds like the way esp if I want to leave it attached. for those of you who do that, do you bother hose clamping or zip tying the hose on? or is the friction fit sufficient?

Friction has always worked on my 4 runners and tacos, if you hose clamp it too tight you can’t turn the tube. Normally I have enough room to slip the hose on and off every time.

also agree, why the removed the access hatch like my pro taco had is stupidity. Changing oil was a breeze on that bad boy.

You might be breaking new ground leaving a drain hose on there. Haven't heard of that being done.
I would probably use a clamp on the nipple and also plug the open end of the hose to keep road crap out.

i think i got the idea from a thread on here somewhere. agree yeah i'm still going over the ideal install options in my head.
wondering if I can build something similar to what I have connected to my air compressor.

alternatively maybe the way is to leave a little sealed hose stub connected, and swap that out for a longer hose when I'm ready to drain. i haven't gotten underneath her yet so I'm not sure exactly how much wiggle room I have with the plate on

Thankfully, my '23 1794 doesn't have the heavy skid plate. If I go off-road where the underside of my truck could be in jeopardy, I take my old Jeep.

I've also never had a problem hitting my drain pan while using the factory drain plug, so the Fumoto valve isn't necessary for me. Their slow draining would also annoy me. Just a piece of cardboard and an old towel is all I need.

My question is, what do you guys do with your old oil? Do you funnel it back into the empty containers from the new oil? I can never do that without making a mess.

Also, how do you dispose of the used oil? Our nearest Walmart doesn't have an automotive center, so they don't take used oil. The nearest one that does is over an hour away. Not having to deal with the old oil is one of the reasons I prefer to have my trusted local mechanic do my oil changes.

I repurposed a couple of 2 1/2 gallon gas containers and labeled them "used oil" with a sharpie. No funnels and no mess at all with Fumoto, as it can take the full load straight into the container in one go. I take it to a local county facility that accepts used oil. Many localities have these, usually called transfer stations or some such. They often take all sorts of household trash and various items for recycling, to include batteries, anti-freeze, oil and other toxic crap. If you don't have that, most Wal-Marts will take it, if you can find one not too far away. Too bad yours doesn't do auto service. You could also ask your local gas station. Back in the day my local Sunoco station took it.

I have a couple large containers from rural king. Can’t find the product on the website, I just saw it in store. I use a cheap plastic drain pan that has a pour spout and transfer to the containers. Each holds about 3 oil changes. I take it down to o’reillys. I think most auto parts stores will take used oil.

I like the idea of re-purposing gas containers, and that does make a good argument for the Fumoto valve. My oil catch pan is just a big rubber bucket that makes it difficult to transfer the used oil into another container. Draining it straight into gas containers, that can be transported, is smart.

So, does your local disposal service empty the used oil into their own containers, then you take your gas containers back home for the next time?

Thanks. I like raylo's solution of draining the used oil directly into a transportable container. The transfer step is always when I seem to make a mess.

Yes, in my experience. Park at their rear entrance and go in and ask to dispose of oil. They dump into their bulk collection and all done.

The only problem with using actual gas containers is finding a cap that seals them shut. Most new gas cans come with a valve or maybe a cap with a spout. In my case I made some 3D print caps for my two containers. Unfortunately they were different threads and I had to make two designs, which was a PITA, but they work great. If you can't find a gas can that works maybe look at what Bulldog mentioned. I am not familiar with those but if they are sturdy and have good caps they might be a good solution.

At our county facility it is just drive up DIY. They have a big basin with a mesh rack that drains into an array of 55 gallon drums. Just take the containers out of the truck bed, pour the oil into the basin and done. They do have some workers about to keep an eye to make sure no one is cross contaminating anti-freeze and oil, but it really is all DIY.

Thanks. I'm not aware of any such facility in my neck of the woods, but I'll look into it. I'm in a very unpopulated are of Colorado.

I do have an old gas container with good caps that I can re-purpose.

I'm ashamed to say, most people around here are likely to find a ditch, or dig a hole, to dispose of their used oil. Or, they just toss it into their everyday garbage. I was the same way when I was younger, but I've become more environmentally conscious as I've gotten older.

Now there's a great use for it.

All of my 7 county metro area (MSP) counties have county recycling locations and one is like 6 blocks from my work.
They take drain oil and old filters for free. They'll take your containers but I have them dump the oil and re-use.
