I am in a similar debate. I found on Ebay some custom size vents that I think can be installed between the hood supports using 3 custom size vents.

Sequoia might be ready today, when I called to see, I was told the old motor had an inspection port and that internally it was a gigantic mess, they said no way it was hydro lock & no way it was a 70k motor.

    So there's that.

Good news on it being ready. Stinks about the used engine. Always someone trying to pass off their broke crap. Good luck!

    I will post pics asap.

Having a weird issue here and seeing if the collective has any insight. This is a tune I sent a guy, totally stock Magnuson 1900 and the first datalog looks like this:

    upload_2025-7-3_10-31-57.png

And the numbers are just absolutely insane, so I tell dude to flash back to the stock TRD tune he had. Got that datalog today, same shit:

    upload_2025-7-3_10-34-0.png

At WOT the truck is at like 1deg of advance (after knock feedback corrections), for reference most setups I do are around 10-15deg at WOT. I had a similar weird case with another guy a few weeks ago, nowhere near this bad, but similar results where there was just tons of retard happening on both my tune and a tune from another company. The only thing I can figure is that a knock sensor is bad or something is tapping the block triggering the knock sensors? Any ideas?

Dumb question and you probably asked, but first thing that comes to mind as a common moron is bad gas? Did they fill it up from pretty much empty with premium after the fuel pump swap before taking these logs?

How is the stock air load table on his tune?
When I change it it really messes with my timing.

I had thought that too, I'll confirm it and make sure he's put a fresh tank through it since the first log.

I'm not following your question... how? Because it is? :D

@Silver17 is on it... anytime I change my desired air load it gets all haywire with timing. It was the only thing that came to mind besides wrong gas...

Makes sense, the timing table is based on airload values, so changing airload is changing which part of the table you're operating in.

Dude says he has fresh 93 in it.

I doubt you mixed air load table and I was going to ask about ethanol content but he's using 93 which usually is low in ethanol.
Did he put in the new spark plugs? Are afr's too lean?

I had this happen to me once before when I filled up at a random gas station near where we were camping the day before going home. It went away after topping off with fresh gas at a known good station. Just saying it’s possible I guess.

Sounds more like bad gas than anything.

I’d also look toward bad fuel initially. Or maybe he put 85 in when he meant to push 93. Who is on here that likes to do that?? I actually checked a couple of gas stations in town and noticed that some stations have the 93 on on the right and some have them on the left. So I could see it happening..

I know that when we got the sequoia tuned my wife accidentally put midgrade in one tank and it pulled ALOT of timing, but mostly in the midrange (where the tune varied the most from stock, as far as I could tell).

Also, maybe a bad motor mount.

Holy hell! Even with my ham-fisted tuning I've never ever seen feedback like that. I get all eye-twitchy when I see a -6. I'm inclined to just throw out the random idea of piston slap with absolutely no evidence nor knowledge to rationalize the comment.

Also, what happened to all the 93 octane that used to be here in the Midwest where I'm visiting? /r

Does it think there is 85% when it's 9?

I'll tell dude to flush through his tank, but I'm suspicious it's not that just since it's SO bad. The one other truck I saw that was similar had crazy knock feedback all the time, even after multiple months and trying diffetent fuel, and regardless how much timing I would pull it was the same or sometimes even worse. It didn't respond like any truck I've seen, and this looks similar from the onset of something triggering the sensors that's not real knock. Like it's not even doing it in boost, hell it's pulling 8deg of timing at 1600rpm barely off of idle.

That's a good one too. I was curious with afr's but most don't put a wideband in until later.
