Thoughts on if it’s worth the extra $250 for a new rack. Or if the remanned from toyota is just as good. Serra has a good deal with a 20% off and free shipping going on, so you can get a new rack for $600 shipped or a remanned for $350 once you send the core back.

Remember that the free shipping does not apply to you returning the core, so there is that to factor into it.

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn’t completely sure and was going to call them and hope that they would provide a return label for free.

If you order from a dealer that's local to you, you can bring the core in person to avoid shipping costs. Only problem for most of us is that the 25% off deal at Serra and other East Coast dealers isn't local.

I have a fair-priced local dealer that I've brought multiple cores into to avoid shipping costs, but they can't beat Serra's sale.

I put a new one in my sequoia because the rebuilt one from Toyota was junk out of the box.

I have a re-manufactured OEM rack and it's been good for 3000 miles so far, but I'll be sure to update if it fails. I kept my original with the intention of having it rebuilt locally in the future.

My best bud is a Yota tech and he told me the failure rate on the used ones is about 6-10.

Yeah, I got my reman from a forum member for the same price it would have cost to have Solo Motorsports rebuild/ reseal my OEM. The reman comes with new inner TREs, so I would've had to buy new ones for my OEM rack anyways. I went into it fully knowing the Toyota remans can be hit or miss, but the reman was such a deal I couldn't pass it up.

They leak pretty quick if they’re going to leak. Sounds like you got lucky.

I’d only go new myself. I’ve heard that remanufactured racks can start to leak prematurely even with new seals.

That said, my new rack didn’t last 8 months before I started to see weeping in the boots following a front end alignment. I really should’ve pushed for a replacement but I didn’t think it would get worse over time.

    My mistake I guess.
