Should one stock OEM parts in case those are discontinued?

The CV axle not being available has gotten me thinking.....should I stock a couple sets of LBJ's or other go bad parts just in case?

    Big sale on this weekend......

    What do you guys think?

Wait for a 25% ofc sale, maybe. But no. Some items won’t discontinue. Others, maybe? I have interior door pulls and door belting tucked away, I currently have zero intent to purchase other items.

    He says. ;)

But seriously, I got a set of LBJs to change at 90k. Getting some other stuff at the next sale but nothing hoard-y, all immediate-use stuff.

I think some trim pieces, interior bits, and some mechanicals will get discontinued by Toyota. Some bits are universal to other models and will carry on because of that. Some like ball joints I suspect will remain available.

Where is the “big sale” happening this weekend? Local dealerships or online?

    TIA

I like to stock up on regular maintenance items ahead of time and just keep em on the shelf for when it's time.

@Griff04 The sale that @shifty` is referring to is the online dealer sale. Fred Anderson is the more popular online dealer that often has these sales. Right now till the 7th is 20% off plus free shipping (up to $200)

OEM plastic and rubber parts & pieces are the items I would focus on.

Some items are totally acceptable to pull off junkyard trucks if they're decent shape. For example, I wouldn't have an issue using a OEM CV axle from a clean frame junkyard truck that was rear ended. I would completely disassemble the CV axle though, clean out all the old grease thoroughly, and apply new grease and fresh boots.

It's worth noting, if you don't live in the state of Alabama, Serra of Birmingham (link) doesn't charge tax. Free shipping on orders over $75. Another member was looking at $800 shipped for a pair of 1st gen LCAs earlier today from a very well-known online dealer that has great pricing, and Serra of Birmingham (not their Decatur dealership, avoid that one!) came out to a smidge over $400 shipped. Ralph, for us GA folk, they tend to get things out the door and to your doorstep pretty darn quick if it's in stock. If not, sometimes it takes 1-2 extra days.

I’ve got 4 gallons of Toyota Red @ $10/ea. from a clearance sale at the local dealer a few years back.

Unless I buy another Toyota, they may get discarded. Haven’t decided what to do yet.
