I came across t-mat a while back in my search for trying to make the best possible bed solution. My new 2.5 gen. arrived and decided to give it shot! Sorry in advance for the long post - it's long winded.

Here are my thoughts:

1) Assembly was quick, went together in 15 minutes tops. A monkey could do this install.

2) It was packaged well and showed up in a timely manner. It's US made, always glad to support US companies. They had a nice postcard of all the employees, you can tell that they care about their product!

3) It's modular, so it'll work for most situations. You can pull it complete if need be (its light), use the blocks to create storage space, make it however you want and plan to use it.

4) The plastic tiles are a nice material, but they don't lock together very solid. When you pull the whole system towards the rear so you can access the items on the mat, the tiles seem to want to come apart when they go over the tailgate. I keep everything in the back of the bed, so there is no weight on the mat when it pulls out over the tailgate. They recommend plywood under the mat for rigidity, I might have to try that at a future date.

5) It does not slide very easily. My Milwaukee boxes are about 40lbs. a piece, so I have decent weight on the mat. I might have to try the plywood with some furniture sliders on the bottom or something of that sort to mitigate this. You really have to yank on it to get it sliding. I also don't have the handles yet (shipped separate), maybe having better handles will help as well.

6) There are male and female connections to snap everything together, but they don't make any smooth edge pieces, so there are male connections sticking out on one side (not good for the OCD/type "A" crowd like me).

7) The blocks that hold all your accessories in place are the biggest disappointment. They feel super chintzy. They don't lock into the mat very securely, they have the tendency to pop out if try to snug up your items against the block. The adjustable blocks are much better, the solid blocks shouldn't even be an option in my mind - I would only sell this with the adjustable type.

Overall, my first impression might sound a little harsh, but I'm not one to mince words. The product is alright, but I really hope and want to warm up to it. The concept is great, the execution feels like it fell a little short. It wouldn't take much to make it excellent (make the tiles lock together more permanently, add some slider attachments on the bottom, make the adjustable blocks in different sizes and ditch the non-adjustable blocks, and make trim pieces for smooth edges). This was $370 out the door, but it "feels" like a $175 plastic product. I certainly don't want to bash their company, I just want to provide some honest feedback, as I haven't seen many of these floating around. I think the product in current form would be great for folks who use their pickup trucks lightly (parents throwing kids sports equipment in the bed, guys who like having a truck for a truck, but don't use the bed much, etc., etc.), but may fall short for the heavy duty users (contractors, weekend warriors with heavy gear, hunters, etc.).

This is all based on the initial install and playing around with it for 45 minutes and trying to get my gear organized. I will come back and update my thoughts after spending some real time with it. Hunting season is coming up, and that always test my gear to limit. We'll see how it holds up and functions in the field!

I’d like to get some more adjustable blocks, but frankly, I don’t want to throw anymore money at it until I use it more.

After 3 months, has it gotten better in your mind? Or still feel like my original review?

I actually like it a lot; I have been loading the bed full of stuff going back and forth to work on my camper and projects around the yard / house. It has worked very well for me keeping stuff secured and upright. Sliding stuff on and off gets caught sometimes but I don’t slide the whole mat out. I went around the wheel wells so the mat is pretty locked in unless I lift it out. I got the ramp attachment (just sloped end pieces) and that cured most of my ocd about having the uneven ends…..
