Outside Air Temp probe location?

Anyone know where EXACTLY the Outside Air Temp probe is located??

Been breaking mine in the hard way. Our old LC didn't come with one so the one in the Tundra is it.

Just curious if anyone knows where they mounted the probe.


About 14 hours out of Anchorage, another 1:45 to our new place in Sterling.

Lost the alternator on the LC this afternoon about 40mins outside of Whitehorse, Yukon. Pulled up in front of Mic Mac Toyota and shut her down and she wouldn't start back up. Batt was completely dead.

Old girl has been a darn good truck over all of these last 23 years. First time she's died on us. Other than this she has been perfect all of the way up. Darn alternator only went 239k, WTF ? LOL

Having to have an alternator flown from BC on the next Commercial flight tomorrow afternoon. The Canadians said that they didn't sell LC's up here so they have absolutely no parts for them.

Should be back on the road tomorrow afternoon, hopefully.

 

My shit was shinny and clean when I left. Took the trailer and load up to the truck stop back home before I left and it weighed in right at 9100#s. This is just south of Great Falls, MT.

It was snowing like crazy this afternoon (and sticking) and my OAT was reading 34 F.

My reason for asking where EXACTLY are the probes located.

I think that it reads a little warn, at least 2 maybe 3 degrees. Not for sure though and why Im wonder where exactly its at.

 

In my 2010, if memory serves, it's beneath the driver's side headlight assembly down behind the bumper. If you remove the trim panel under the headlight assembly, you can see it.
The door lock/unlock beeper thingy is there, too.

Oops. Just searched my FSM and it's behind the grille in front of the radiator down low on the driver's side about bumper level..

@JTP Glad to see you got your original question answered. Is it time to hijack this thread for more info on your epic trip? Looks like the work you did to prep your Tundra has served you well! I don't see any sag at the back, and was so impressed with your description about the additional custom leafs, that I want that (even tho I don't need 'em). Also, your truck looked pretty into MT-- and looks great all iced over in AK too!

Yup, almost there. Hanging in Whitehorse, Yukon right now waiting on my alternator for the LC. Should be on the 2:30pm flight from Vancouver BC. Another 5 hours to the Border then another 8 to our new place. Its been snowing pretty good and the roads have been pretty bad since Ft. Nelson. Only been able to run between 35 and 40mph (sometimes slower). Truck is performing great.

The service guys at the Yoda dealer here in Whitehorse are digging my Tundi for sure.

Im wondering if the heat from under the grill is making it read a little warmer than it actually is out side.

 

For the record my MPG has ranged from 6 to 10 in TOW HAUL depending on the train and my speed. Average on flat ground Interstate highway running 65 was right at 7 mpg, OUCH! Got 12mpg last couple of days running at 35 to 40 on the snow in 4 wheel drive and TOW HAUL so the snow has helped my wallet out a bit. My normal MPG just around town is right at 11 and 12 on the highway so its not too bad in the grand scheme of things

 

This was the trailer and the load weight before I threw on my ladders, wheelbarrow, and two spare trailer tires a week or so before I left. Im guessing another 400#s SO I'm right at 9100.

 

$1,099.00 Canadian and 2.5 days for an alternator swap and oil change on the Land Cruiser in the fucking Yukon.

 

Did that come with lube or did they give it to you dry....

 

Everyone in Canada so far has said that they personally know someone just like theses guys.

Toyota in Anchorage had an alternator in stock and it was only $181.00 US and another $100.00 to put it on.

Sure hope the rest of your trip goes better. How many gallons of gas have you went through already? The springs look like they are doing a great job.

Spring mod is awesome! Boys at Toyota today couldn't believe how nice the ride was. Took the lead mechanic and the Owner of the dealership for a quick ride around town this morning and they were blown away on the ride, the 488's, and LSD rear end. They are seriously looking at offing the mods at their dealership for their customers up here. The truck needs some serious bigger balls up here and they totally get what I've done.

I don't think that Im going to even look at my gas usage for at least two weeks. Im blocking it out. I will tally it up for my taxes and my moving expenses. Plus I will have to convert half of it from Liters to gallons so that might take me till next April 15th.

 

That alternator was the original alternator. Went 239k so Im not too upset. If my Tundra is around for another 20 years and dose as well as my LC has I will be pretty happy.

 

It should be my dad has an 18 year old Tahoe with 309,000 on it and still drives it everyday even though he has a new vehicle with 3,000 miles on it.

Started snowing like a bitch from the Alaska border all of the rest of the way.

Tundi in 4x4, Tow Haul, and with the LSD didn't slip a tire once. THIS THING IS A TOWING BEAST!
