Are these motors going down for other reasons than the main bearings? I know there were some normal type hiccups with the turbos early on, but I haven’t heard any chatter about that in a couple of years.

The Engine Assembly to Remedy the Recall is not to be used for any vehicle outside the recall. They are able to converse with Toyota Corporate and potentially get a Partial Engine Assembly aka Long Block, but the Engine Assembly is 100% for the recalled vehicles.

Yes. Rod bearings as well. The debris issue can cause oil starvation on anything at the crank.

Valve guides are a somewhat major issue on some 2024 builds as well. Those don't fail, but do require new cylinder heads.

I’m never visiting this thread again. Too depressing.

    I mean, I’ll be back if I have a bad engine I guess…

This has to be one of the highest mileage when an engine has spun?

Hey all my truck was built in sep of 23. Had a failure last week at 18k on the clock. No warning just happend while going 70 plus. Luckily I was able to limp over.

Anyway dealer said I’ll be getting a crate engine and that they didn’t even tear them down at my dealership. I’m from AL. Engines are made at plant about an hour from me.

This happened to me on my 2023 and is why I traded in for a F-150. As you can see from my post history, I am not enjoying the F-150 all that much after a year of ownership. I just put down a deposit for a 2025.

Its great seeing another Tundra guy from Huntsville. I really wish we would come together and form a Tundra club here. Plenty of people that would join.

So says one who surely appears to be envious of 3rd gen Tundra superiority. This issue will come to an end. We all own Toyota for their ability to make an amazing truck and know they stand by their products. If this helps you feel better to bash someone for continuing their appreciation of these trucks, so be it.

Im sure your grandpa said the same thing about your truck. Its just how we view new things. The issues will finally be fixed and Toyota will be right back on top as the most reliable.

Your personal details indicates you own a 2023 model year.
Are you sure your build date is September 2023?
Pretty sure they have switched over to 2024 MY production by August as that was the build date of my 2024.

    Waiting till 2026s come out.
I’ll put one more winter on the 2024 and wait till April/May 2026 when the best deals seem to be.

Full switchover for the 2024 model year did not occur until Late September 2023, Early October 2023. If they have late allocations for a previous model year, they will fulfill those while also producing the new model year.

Think what he was saying was is they were producing 23 model years through Sep while producing 24 models at the same time but didnt stop producing 23 after sep.

It's kinda crazy I remember reading about this a year ago and thinking, in a year, we will know a lot more about it. We really don't. I'm still not sure the rate of failure here, but like I posted before, I talked to the service manager where I bought my Tundra and he told me They had quite a bit of 2022s fail before 20k miles, but far less 2023, and even less 2024. I know that's contrary to what we hear about the part number replacement, but nonetheless interesting as it comes from a busy dealership in south Fl.

I clarified with him what I've read online but he says there is no chance the failure rate is the same with all tundras until the part number replacement as he says they were doing swaps on 2022's with less miles than the 2023 and 2024s are coming in now with for service and that it died down significantly after a certain point.

Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
I got my new engine and fuel line replaced in 3 days!
My local dealer Brunswick Toyota in Brunswick, Ohio did an impeccable install.
I was able to take the truck down to West Virginia last week pulling a trailer and my SXS which is a 5 hour trip one way.
I Did not notice any lag and on the freeway I did slightly hear the turbos more than I did before. I’m super happy with the care that was given to my truck by Dave the mechanic.

My dealer finally emailed me back to let me know my truck was built in Aug '22 and thus will be phase 5 for the recall. He said that he thought that phase would be opening in the next couple of weeks.

I have 56k miles on my truck so far without any issues with the original engine. Still my only gripe about it has been that Toyota charges a subscription for being able to use the app to remote start my truck. I feel like if you spend $60K on a vehicle, you shouldnt be renting any features.

Phase 5 is scheduled for Q3 2025, so that may hold true.

August is also split into 2 phases.

Early to Mid August 2022 (Aug 1-15) is Phase 5.
Mid to Late August 2022 (Aug 16-31) is Phase 6.

Has anyone heard anything else about expanding the recall to include the later 23's and 24's?
