I have a 2020 Toyota Tundra Platinum that I purchased back in 2020 from my local Toyota dealer.

As I was performing routine maintenance on the truck I noticed that the threads on my spark plugs had oil on them, water pump had a leak and power steering lines were leaking as well.

Truck only has 89K miles so I decided to bring it over to my local Toyota dealer as they originally sold me the truck and the extended warranty for it.

Service advisor for local dealer is stating that it seems like extended warranty does not want cover any of the work. Or at least not the water pump or power steering lines.

I’ve attached the pictures that the dealer service advisor sent me. Which I assume were the ones that he submitted to the extended warranty.

My question is are these leaks something not to worry about or am I missing something here.

    Thank you!

I’ve always heard that 3rd party extended warranties were to be avoided at all costs because they will fight you on every single thing. It looks like the claims adjuster is saying there is no evidence of leakage. Need better photos, I guess.

Maybe you can get it in writing from the dealership service manager that the water pump and power steering are both indeed leaking.

Maybe persistence on your end will pay off. Maybe not.

Yeah, I’m being as persistent as possible with this in order to hopefully get this covered.

not sure how bad these leaks really are if they don’t end up getting covered.

A good dealer should go to bat for you on the warranty THEY sold you. If they can't get it covered, I would try and get the warranty refunded for what you've paid.

I will be trying that. Thing is that the dealer that I bought from got bought out by this new dealer a few months after I purchased my tundra.

That could make things more complicated.

Yeah, tell me about it. The new dealer offers a supposed lifetime warranty on every new vehicle they sell as well.

Service advisor and extended warranty state that it’s not “active” so for them that isn’t a leak.

They would say that to not do the warranty work. It will get worst once it starts leaking more, inspect it often for any indications of increased pink coolant residue build up.

Was your vehicle a certified used vehicle from Toyota or as is with aftermarket extended warranty? I've had tons of bad experiences as a technician with after market warranties and them not wanting to cover anything. I would 100% avoid them as it's just a waste of money. If the vehicle was certified, Toyota warranty follows very strict guidelines in classifying "leaks". Basically if its not forming a drop and falling on the floor it's considered a seep, which is not warrantable yet.

    None....
Leave a google review for that dealer and the warranty they sell. Contact BBB too.
