That moto iq guy is a clown he tried to argue with me saying a rear kit isn’t needed. Completely lost any credibility. No way his kit with a yellow pad upgrade out back will out perform a bbk front and rear. If a rear big brake kit wasn’t needed then you wouldn’t see Porsches and many other supercars running massive rear brakes.

i understand your point of view and it’s very valid. For me , I gave it a shot and I’ll give Alcon a shot after these. So that was my mind set. Makes sense to me to try different things and see how I like it.

It’s cool you took a chance to try them out. I still haven’t bought brakes yet but intend to as the pad backing plate started scorching the rotors. 105k on the original set, not too bad.

I have an Alcon paper template they provided to see if my TRD 18” will clear the calipers.

    I’ll report back

IMO Brembo or Alcon if you are wanting to do a big brake kit upgrade are about the only choices I would go with for any vehicle. Is it worth the $5-7k, guess that depends on what you plan on doing with the truck but if you are planning on keeping the truck for 5-10 years its definitely worth the $$$ long term, otherwise aint no one going to give you the $$ you spent on them when you go to sell it. If you want to stick with "stock/oem" brakes I would suggest DBA, EBC or HAWK parts.

Typically rear brakes do very little in stopping, most cars are front bais'd

also Mike Kojima knows his shit (the guy from the motoiq) and if he said its not needed / worth the money Ill tend to lean his way then some random person .

If they did so little then large sportcar mfgs wouldn’t continue to go larger… it’s simple physics more mass more, more heat needed to be displaced. If he knew his shit this is simple stuff here… but ok. He’s also going to say icon suspension is great lol

Only half of that statement is true. While vehicle braking systems are front biased, the rear brakes still contribute significantly to braking performance.

Front/rear bias can be around 70/30 in a heavy stop as weight shifts forward on to the front axle. This is true. But in regular braking, more weight still remains on the rear axle. While towing, weight shifts from the trailer onto the rear axle, creating even more downforce on the tires.

The biasing is due simply to available tractive force on each tire/axle. More weight on the same tire and surface creates more traction. The amount of force required to break that traction increases with weight, so you can bias more braking force to the tires with more tractive force. Hence the brake biasing.

BUT.. If you neglect the rear brakes (claiming that they do very little) you are neglecting nearly 50% more braking force that could be used to slow the vehicle. Given that 70/30 heavy bias 30% / 70% = 42% additional braking force over the front wheels alone. That’s a SIGNIFICANT difference. In daily driving, the bias is even less, and the decrease in performance even more without the rear brakes.

Hence, the incorrect portion of that statement - the rears really do contribute significantly to braking performance and ought to be upgraded same as the fronts to keep braking balanced while increasing performance.
